Although no third season has yet been commissioned, producer Rolin Jones hints on which book AMC's Interview With The Vampire will eventually fit for television. Looking back on his undead life, the relationships he had, and those he loved and lost throughout 12 incarnations, Jacob Anderson, the Vampire stars, opens up to interviewer Daniel Malloy (Eric Bogosian). Though the first two seasons center on the events of Anne Rice's 1976 book, the series has several modernized components that integrate her written works into a current environment.
Jones hinted to Collider which the series will adapt next should it return for season 3, with Interview With The Vampire season 2, episode 6 ending with the stunning comeback of Sam Reid's Lestat in the lead-up to one of Louis' most traumatic recollections. Although the showrunner, The Vampire Lestat, planned to concentrate on the next book, Rice's series has not hesitated in integrating themes from later editions. See Jones's whole answer below:
It is maybe shocking for long-time readers that Jones intends to concentrate on the events of The Vampire Lestat for a possible Interview with the Vampire season 3. Published in 1985, nine years following the previous book, The Vampire Lestat questions the events of the first book since Lestat is at last ready to provide his own autobiography of his life leading into the present. Although Lestat's background was revealed to Louis, including his monastic schooling and turning, they have been bits from Louis's point of view, thereby creating uncertainty on their validity.
Moreover, the modern-day storyline of the Vampire is likely to cause several modifications. Apart from exposing that Louis's original interview went unreported and provides a second narrative of his life to the story, the series also offers a contemporary tale of manipulation to Louis, Daniel, and Armand's experience. Given unforeseen occurrences between the 1973 interview and Louis' do-over, it is therefore unknown where Lestat enters into the equation or whether he knows about Daniel's original novel. Perhaps Lestat has not yet made his great encore with Daniel's work unpublished.
Although Interview with the Vampire has been open to deviating from the plot of the original novel to include additional parts and provide fresh views to Louis' narrative, Jones obviously still has an eye on seeing the story developed in a manner that still stays true to Rice's original work. Therefore, going further into Lestat's background could be the ideal approach to keep the ensemble together and incorporate more Vampire mythology as season 2 is scheduled to put Louis' interview to an end. Moreover, with an all-new contemporary environment, the show may examine just how Lestat reinvents himself.
Since the show awaits a renewal from Amc, the release date for Interview with the Vampire season 3 is yet unknown. Nonetheless, there is much expectation about the prospect of a third season since supporters want to see how Louis de Pointe du Lac's narrative keeps developing. If the program were to adapt The Vampire Lestat, it would surely be a fascinating examination of the legendary vampire's path, providing fresh perspectives on his character and place in the Interview with the Vampire universe.

Among Anne Rice's Immortal Universe media projects, this is the first.
