Why Cyberpunk 2077 Doesn't Have New Game Plus (And Probably Never Will)

Lead Quest Designer for Cyberpunk 2077 clarified the reason New Game Plus wasn't present.

Lead quest designer Pawel Sasko of Cyberpunk 2077 responded to fan requests for a New Game Plus feature in the game and clarified the rationale behind its omission in an interview with Dualshockers Sasko said it basically came down to the core design and narrative of the game since, although the prologue of the game is about "becoming a legend" in Night City, the rest of the game is really about coping with terminal illness as V's body progressively deteriorates from the prototype Relic buried in their head.

These themes, then, led Sasko to believe it would be "incredibly difficult to figure out a way where New Game Plus could be done in a way that doesn't completely break the way the game is built." While games like Starfield had been considered as a New Game Plus experience due of their cyclical nature, this was not the case with Cyberpunk 2077, as it was "designed to be replayed" instead, with so many things players could get a varied experience by trying completely different approaches with each playthrough down to choosing new life paths, romances and builds, and the idea of carrying things over from a previous playthrough would go against.

New Game Plus of Cyberpunk 2077 Wouldn't Work

While Sasko did point out that Cd Projekt Red could figure out the design solutions relating to mechanics and gameplay for New Game Plus, claiming that it is simply "math and design," he does highlight that New Game Plus just wouldn't work on a narrative level. Actually, including it as an afterthought could harm the game overall since Sasko claims that done wrong it could look "very tacked on".

The game will not be getting significant upgrades going ahead, which further knocks out the idea of a New Game Plus option with most of Cyberpunk 2077's creators moving onto other projects at Cd Projekt Red, such the forthcoming Witcher game, or possibly Cyberpunk 2077's successor, codenamed Orion. That's not a negative thing, though. Cyberpunk 2077, with its sense of finality in every of its endings as V can either come to grips with their fate in some manner, does feel like every playthrough should be distinct since it tells a basically complete story.

Why Cyberpunk 2077 lacks NG+?

With its rich environment of Night City providing much of explore and the decisions players make having far-reaching effects, gamers of Cyberpunk 2077 may readily pour hundreds of hours into. There are many reasons for players to go back to CD Projekt Red's title and see how things can go differently for its protagonist, V. Given many life routes, relationship possibilities, and character builds accessible.

Cyberpunk 2077 lacks a New Game Plus mode even if encourages repeat gameplays. With games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 introducing newer costume types or incentives to encourage players to return, and Starfield and Alan Wake 2 tying these repeat playthroughs into their core story, New Game Plus is something that's become increasingly common in other games as it allows players the chance to carry over their progression while restarting the story anew.
