NYT Strands Puzzle: A Word Search with a Twist!
The New York Times' Strands puzzle is a seriously fun word search, still in beta testing (so play it to keep it around!). Every day you get a six by eight grid to solve, a clue helping find those hidden words. Once a theme word is found, it highlights blue. That sounds simple? There is a trick!
You also need to find the spangram (highlighted yellow); a word connecting opposite grid sides. Theme words won't be proper nouns, but the spangram can be! Strands throws curveballs frequently – words are sometimes fill-in-the-blank phrases, process steps, items within a category, synonyms, or homophones. Keep this in mind!
Strands Hint for November 2nd:
The NYT hint is: Good on paper
My hint is: Back to school
Strands Answers for November 2nd:
The spangram is: OFFICESUPPLIES
(Check the image for where that loop is!)
The other words are:
- RULER
- SCISSORS
- STAPLER
- PRINTER
- PENCILS
My Thoughts: A Tricky but Fun Puzzle!
I'll admit; I found this one kinda tough! Yes, the words all relate to paper. But at first, my mind thought it was more about marking on paper! The PRINTER word totally didn’t spring to mind initially. But hey; that totally unexpected OFFICESUPPLIES spangram looping around like a paperclip? Hilarious. Also: extremely challenging!
Conclusion: Give Strands a Try!
Strands is super addictive; a fun puzzle that tests those word-finding skills; while incorporating different creative twists! It also shows the variety of puzzles that require skill; while the overall level is deceptively simple. This game remains enjoyable. Give it a shot – but hurry! It could disappear if enough people don’t play it!
