Announcing Some Of Its Games Too Far In Advance Ubisoft
Prince of Persia: Originally announced back in 2020 with intentions to premiere in 2021, the remake was postponed and had its production process restarted at Ubisoft Montreal, therefore depriving fans of many years of darkness. Although Ubisoft Toronto, which is working on a Splinter Cell remake as well, joined the project's development, its 2026 window begs the issue of whether Ubisoft is revealing some of these Games too far in advance and if this could affect the buzz for the game.
Announcing games so long ahead of their release dates can cause fans' excitement to be lacking. Long stretches between the announcement and release of a game could cause fans to lose interest or forget about the game totally. It also offers Ubisoft less time to concentrate on other Games, therefore reducing the time available for marketing and other development concerns for the game.
Some titles announced years ago but haven't shown up forward at Ubisoft since
Although the 2024 Ubisoft Forward at last gave an update on the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time following six years, numerous other previously mentioned titles have gone silent to further chagrin of fans. Beyond Good & Evil 2 is maybe the most well-known instance of this.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been hinted at through leaks since confirmed by developer Michel Ancel in the 2000s while a different version of the game was in development, then had an official announcement in 2016, prior to a fresh teaser showing at E3 2017. Ancel left the firm after then, however Ubisoft stated in a financial report a year later in 2021 that the project was still "progressing well". Notwithstanding this, the public has not yet seen any fresh disclosure on new gameplay, story elements, or even a release date.
The Greatest Issue Ubisoft Has Has Nothing to Do With Gameplay
The Ubisoft Forward underlined another issue with current game presentations and had little to do with the actual game footage exhibited. With some fresh announcements in store, Ubisoft's display closed the Summer Game Fest 2024 weekend and gave a fresh view of Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed: Shadows, and more.
These fresh announcements included the new game in the Anno series, Anno 117: Pax Romana, which is already available to be wishlisted and will be released in 2025, roadmaps for XDefiant and The Crew Motorfest, and free updates and expansions for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia, both of which are currently available to download. Along with the Prince of Persia reveals came a fresh release window for the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, now aiming at 2026.
An Analysis of Ubisoft Forward 2024
Among the several games Showcased at Summer Game Fest's Ubisoft Forward 2024 presentation were Star Wars and Assassin's Creed ones.
The Ubisoft Forward this year lacked surprises; many of the fans were let down by the dearth of information on games like Splinter Cell and Beyond Good & Evil 2. Though a lot of gameplay video was displayed, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time's release window was the only actual news item highlighted. Some fresh announcements, though, such Anno 117: Pax Romana.
Announcing Games Years Ahead: The Issue
With more than 15 years of development, Beyond Good and Evil 2 exceeded Duke Nukem Forever's longest development record in 2022.
Particularly given its production studio, Ubisoft Toronto, changed all of its social media images to fit the stealth genre around the time the event was announced, one title many anticipated seeing at the Ubisoft Forward this year was the Splinter Cell remake. Apart from some cameos from series protagonist Sam Fisher in other series like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six, the Splinter Cell franchise has been dormant for more than a decade; word of the game has been quite Rare since its release. Unless some concept art released as part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of the original title in 2022.
