Did X-Men Writers Think Avengers Were Ruining Firestar and Justice?
Get ready, 'cause we are talking Marvel here! It turns out there was some big tension between the writers working on those X-Men Comics and the folks doing Avengers. But what really was going on?! We're taking a trip into those crazy Marvel storylines and how characters show up in a bunch of comics.
How Did the "X-Men" Team Up With The "Avengers"?!
We know about The Fall of the House of X and that wild Krakoan era, but this story gets interesting because we also gotta talk about two fan-favorite heroes - Firestar and Justice!
- You probably know Firestar - that awesome mutant, with her power of fire! You can catch her in the awesome Avengers team or the X-Men.
- Remember that other mutant hero - Justice, or Vance Astrovik - he was in New Warriors and even had some stints with The Avengers! And both of these heroes had a super strange journey through these comics and how they are presented!
What Was the Problem?
These two had some major issues, as a big feud arose. Turns out that, even the writers of these stories were feeling a bit frustrated! They were worried about the creative teams on both books: The X-Men writers were feeling nervous about how these characters were being handled in The Avengers stories! So, there’s some kind of hidden feud, which happens a ton in comic books - because these folks have super conflicting plans for the heroes.
- If you have watched the Marvel movie universe, they are taking more and more creative freedom and are starting to disregard the details, sometimes, making fans kinda confused, right?!
- But you have to keep in mind that a hero in one book may show up in another. Sometimes, that makes everything way less interesting.
Firestar, Justice and the X-Men
This tension arose because Firestar actually went on an undercover mission for the X-Men to be a mole within a super villain group - Orchis! That kind of role is way more different than her adventures with The Avengers, where she's like a super cop. The X-men writer was like, "I'll be honest with you, it made me upset!" - they just thought they weren't portrayed fairly and the role seemed forced on her.
When Firestar made it into X-Men Election it seemed pretty clear that, as a hero, she wasn’t very popular among some of those super powered mutants because she had already helped kill Dr. Stasis, one of the antagonists, before. It's crazy, and there are definitely tons of these "higher powers" issues that come up in comic books and the way characters show up everywhere!
Can You Talk About Justice a Bit More?
It looks like the creative teams were keeping Justice from the X-Men books! It's kind of funny because he is also a mutant, but they always seemed to be keeping him in those New Warriors series. Now we get an answer for why - those X-Men writers weren't fans of the stories.
There’s a reason, too, that Justice shows up at a critical moment. Those storylines where the comic book industry is taking young superheroes and literally making it so that they're not heroes anymore? That's "Outlawed"! We were totally rooting for him because it kinda felt like that other event in Civil War.
It's Not Easy, Right?
- If we're all going to love those heroes, these storytellers and writers need to figure out the self-aware storytelling so those heroes are consistent and that everything makes sense! We have to figure out what's best for all these crazy, wild comics!
- Even though those creators had plans - you gotta look at the fact that this comic book world can be super tricky with creative teams and everyone trying to do a cool storyline that everyone loves! The biggest thing to remember - this doesn't stop all those superheroes and those amazing tales from appearing again, even though things can get a bit messed up. This doesn't stop heroes and stories from getting told, and from a storytelling perspective, this actually does help characters to appear and show up everywhere in crazy, unexpected ways!
So next time, we see those superheroes from the "Avengers and the "X-Men, let’s think about this really crazy storyline - with all these creators battling behind the scenes! But it makes us realize that even behind these super awesome stories, it’s not all fun!
