The X-Men Find It Difficult to Resist A Summer Pool Party
Remarkably the best-selling comic in history, the 1991 X-Men relaunch reminds us of the constant popularity and devotion the mutant series has always attracted. Originally released as supplemental artwork in 1991's X-Men #1, Jim Lee's original hot Pool Party cover was an instant fan favorite image of the X-Men. From the barely clothed X-Women to Colossues in a thong and Wolverine in jean shorts, the artwork is absolutely legendary and has been homaged numerous times over the years most recently by David Nakayama as a Hellfire Gala variant cover.
Featuring the same outrageous 90s spirit and clothes as the original, Kaare Andrews' alternative cover pays a great respect to Lee's magnificent work. Highlights include Psylocke reading a copy of the magazine "Vague," Cyclops using his optic beams to flip hamburgers, and enormous Cable lifting even bigger weights. The extraterrestrial dragon Lockheed, sporting an X-Men bib and joyfully chewing on a drumstick, may be the most funny element of the whole connected cover though. Enjoying their short times of peace and calm as a big, untidy family, Andrews brilliantly caught the classic 90s attitude of the X-Men.
Marvel's Mutants Need a Vacation Following X's Fall
With Hope Summers giving her life to reborn the Phoenix, mutants reviled more than ever, and over 200,000 innocent mutants imprisoned in the White Hot Room, the X-Men's beloved Krakoan Age ends tragically. The X-Men are used to struggle and sorrow; while their new From the Ashes era will see them battling for their rights harder than ever, the winning mutants also deserve a great vacation.
Although Kaare Andrews' Pool Party variation pays homage to the 90s X-Men, it would be fantastic if the current X-Men could at last relax and just sip cocktails by the pool instead of battling. To have the entire lovely spread, make sure you grab Andrews' connecting covers from Unknown Comics!

X-Men and Their Families
Though the X-Men are well-known for being "hated and feared," their strong family drama and very tight friendships—highlighted by legendary tales of the X-Men organizing pool parties, shopping trips, and basketball games—are equally noteworthy.
First revealed by artist Kaare Andrews, the three linked Pool Party Variant Covers feature 18 of the X-Men's most beloved mutants and will grace the covers of X-Men #25 - the last issue of the Krakoan Era - as well as X-Men #1 and NYX #1, the first issues of the new From the Ashes era.
