Not Worry: The Batman 2 Still Lives.
Lack of updates about The Batman 2 has sparked a lot of conjecture and theories. These speculations, which predated James Gunn's announcement of the DCU's Brave and the Bold adaptation of Batman, suggested that The Batman - Part II will be canceled. This idea became rather popular. Though Gunn clarified that Robert Pattinson's Batman would be an Elseworlds project, many felt it improbable that a series like the DCU would have two versions of the Caped Crusader.
DC Comics' word "elseworlds" denotes a narrative outside of the main brand canon. For non-canonical DCU films like Joker: Folie à Deux, Gunn adopted this name. James Gunn, though, has consistently addressed these rumors. Gunn contested The Batman 2's cancellation on Instagram. He calmed a worried fan on the state of the movie. According to Gunn, the movie and its intended follow-up have not been shelved, therefore ending the speculations. Reeves's concentration on MAX's The Penguin TV show, a spin-off of the original movie set to premiere before the sequel, is probably the reason Updates on The Batman - Part II are lacking.
What We Know About The Batman 2 Filming Starting Dates
Once reports about the cancellation of The Batman - Part II are a thing of the past, naturally questions will surface when the movie starts filming. The Batman 2 was first scheduled for an October 2025 release date, so early 2024 filming was expected to start. Having stated that, the project was postponed in March 2024, reversing a year to a release date in October 2, 2026. Given this, the film's Production is also projected to be delayed by roughly one year.
Reports and whispers from inside the business backed this. According to a The Insneider investigation on the filming start of The Batman 2, Production would commence in April 2025, giving Reeves and his crew more than enough time to finish the movie for an October 2026 release. This source also revealed that fall 2024 internet announcements of casting Updates for new characters in The Batman - Part II would start. Given The Penguin's September 2024 release, this would very certainly make sense. Reeves's attention will then turn to The Batman 2, in line with cast updates.
The Batman 2: What's Happening?
Since its release, The Batman - Part II has received little updates, which begs the issue of what is happening with the production. The plot of The Batman - Part II was first leaked soon after Warner Bros.' first film proved successful. James Gunn's DCU slate was unveiled in January 2023; the title The Batman - Part II revealed as an Elseworlds project. This naturally generated a lot of buzz since many people wanted a sequel that would further develop the characters and universe of The Batman.
The Batman - Part II will keep on expanding on Matt Reeves' portrayal of Gotham, among several forthcoming Batman films or TV shows. While Reeves' next movie will be a separate entity resulting from The Batman's ending, the DCU will have another Batman in Gunn's Brave and the Bold adaption. Though the movie is much awaited, not much has been known about the making since its announcement. Here is what is happening with The Batman - Part II among speculations of cancelals and production delays.
The Batman 2: James Gunn Debunks Rumors
James Gunn has had a lot of internet criticism since assuming creative lead of the DCU. Fascinatingly, though, Gunn is a far more vocal director than many others on his internet contacts with fans. Gunn so routinely closes down several Rumors before they can fly. From the aforementioned conjecture of the project being canceled to casting and filming reports, several of these rumors rev concentrate on The Batman universe.
One of the more persistent rumors Gunn has addressed is Boyd Holbrook being hired for The Batman 2. These rumors appeared to support Holbrook's casting as Harvey Dent, sometimes known as Two-Face in the forthcoming film, something Gunn refuted by merely responding "Fake." in response to a Threads question. Another speculum that has been floated lately is that The Batman - Part II and its sequel would film back-to-back, something Gunn also verified there is no truth to in the comments on an Instagram post honoring the comic version of Peacemaker character Vigilante.

Why You Should Not Feel Concerned About The Batman 2
Gunn's constant remarks about the movie clearly show how pointless fears about The Batman - Part II are. Although many will still suggest that the arrival of a DCU Batman will drive Reeves' franchise into extinction, nothing has been said by Gunn, Reeves, or Warner Bros. suggesting this is a possibility. The Batman 2 was highlighted with The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Superman when Gunn revealed his first slate for the DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Above all, this should help to allay fears about The Batman 2's cancellation.
Though it is an Elseworlds project, Gunn obviously sees Reeves' series as one with immense promise and one that is very necessary for the DCU. Though more concerns were raised by the film's postponement to 2026, this was most likely the result of The Penguin's production and the WGA strikes in 2023, which prevented Matt Reeves from carrying on working on the script. All of this suggests that The Batman - Part II will not be canceled and will remain an essential component of the DCU's future in which Gotham's Dark Knight is involved.
Matt Reeves carries on his The Batman Universe with some spinoff TV shows.
Last but not least, other theories regarding The Batman 2's antagonists are the last significant bit of conjecture to have captured hold of the internet which Gunn has refuted. Apart from Holbrook's obvious participation, other sources suggested that the script of The Batman - Part II had characters like Hush, Clayface, Professor Pyg, and Scarecrow. These rumors also mentioned Dick Grayson, Batman's reliable sidekick Robin, will be in the movie. Once more, Gunn turned to Threads to refute the stories.
Colin Farrell stars in the first to premiere original series from HBO Max.
