Stephen King's Institute: Recent News
Though rumors of a 2019 book adaptation have been floating around for years, the most recent information reveals that MGM+ is working on a Stephen King The Institute adaptation. Plans are already in place to start filming later in 2024; green-lit an 8-episode miniseries on the streaming exclusive platform will bring the underappreciated thriller to life. Benjamin Cavell will write the screenplay; Jack Bender will serve both executive producer and director for the miniseries. Cavell is not new to King's writings; he is most famous for penning Mr. Mercedes and the most recent rendition of The Stand.
Hollywood started knocking to adapt The Institute as soon as the novel hit shelves back in 2019, much as most Stephen King works. Jack Bender was attached from the start, although original producer David E. Kelly apparently left in the years thereafter. Fascinatingly enough, the project was conceived as a miniseries from the start even if it took a long time to actually come to pass. MGM+ has formally green-lit the series now, and The Institute will open its doors sooner rather than later.
