New Giant-Man Fighting Against Original Abusive Past.

Hank Pym was an Avengers founding member; but, violence dominates His Legacy.

Hank Pym was an Avengers founding member on Earth-616 and not unfamiliar with controversy. Hank Pym, also known as the Wasp, long married Janet Van Dyne and has gone under several names including Ant-Man, Yellowjacket, Goliath and Giant Man. Hank has a history of bravery, but his violent relationship with Janet clouds all of it and results in him punching her. Though he was supposedly not in his right mind, harm was done; Hank Pym has never been back in the splendor he once possessed.

Hank Pym's unstable legacy persisted into the first Ultimate Universe, where it was heightened yet more. Hank was significantly more erratic in the original Ultimate line, and his relationship with Janet suffered. Like his 616 counterpart, Pym turned to violence toward Janet, but in a considerably more startling manner. His Ultimate counterpart puts her in the hospital; 616 Pym only hit her once. And similarly to the Giant Man of 616, the Ultimate version was removed from the agenda and properly labeled as a laughingstock.

The New Hank Pym Shows Possibility. The Others did not

The new Hank Pym in The Ultimates #1 suffers with self-doubt, and this gets worse when he learns of the deeds of his multiverse counterparts. Although Hank first feels depressed, he overcomes his uncertainties and aids the Ultimates in defeating Captain Britain. The new Giant Man has one major advantage over his predecessors: he understands what they did, even though it's still to be seen if he would follow the same road as them. Equipped with this understanding, Giant Man can transcend his flaws and become an outstanding hero.
