Dune 3 Casting Update Gets Rebecca Ferguson's Not Sure Reaction
Denis Villeneuve's first adaptation, based on Frank Herbert's 1965 book, released in 2021 and received compliments from both viewers and critics equally. The sequel, Dune: Part Two, which was an even more popular movie, carries Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides and his quest against the Harkonnens on Arrakis continuing forward. Dune: Part Three is now verified to be in development even if the project is still in the writing stage.
In a recent interview with TheWrap's "Unwrapped," Ferguson—who plays Lady Jessica—is inquired about the development of Dune: Part Three. The actress claims she is not specifically aware of any details regarding the project, but she does know none of the performers of the second film have yet signed on for the third. Please find Ferguson's entire reply below:
Putting together the Dune: Part Three could prove difficult.
While most of Dune's main performers were involved for two Movies, no contracts exist for the third one. Salaries for Dune: Part Two performers Chalamet, Zendaya, Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Anya Taylor-Joy, and others would thus have to be renegotiated. For the third film, all of these performers—especially the younger ones like Chalamet and Zendaya, whose star power has grown recently—would be getting major salary increases.
Dune and Dune: Part Two are obviously not inexpensive to make since they depend on effects; the sequel's budget is estimated to be about $190 million. No matter how much the third movie obtains, more of the whole budget of the picture will surely have to go toward cast pay. Like every movie, a compromise will have to be done between how much is left over to produce the film and how much is allocated to finding talent. This is on top of scheduling, which could be challenging given the demand for Dune actors anticipated to be somewhat high.
"I have no knowledge. I have zero knowledge. Not sure even if he completed the script. Not even sure if I fall into it. I mean, I hope I am in it. I'm brilliant; I have tattoos and chains. Not even knew [Anya Taylor-Joy] was in [Dune: Part Two] until I watched the movie... Remember also that nobody has signed on to the third movie. That calls for a major choice. There are several performers in one same movie [mimes rubbing bills together]. I therefore have no idea where they will cut corners or what they will do. One has a lot to consider.
The actor provides a fresh update on Dune: Part Three, stressing an unclear reaction on who will be featured in the film. Denis Villeneuve's first adaptation, based on Frank Herbert's 1965 book, debuted in 2021 and received both positive audience and critic opinions. His follow-up, Dune: Part Two, carries on Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides story via his battle against the Harkonnens on Arrakis. Dune: Part Three is now under definite development, but the project is still in the script stage.
Ferguson, who plays Lady Jessica, was questioned about the advancement on Dune: Part Three in a recent appearance for TheWrap's "Unwrapped" podcast. Ferguson says she hasn't been specifically informed about the project, but she does know none of the actors of the second movie have signed on for the third just yet. Kindly review Ferguson's whole comment here below.
Looking ahead to Dune's development
Fortunately, the outstanding reviews and incredible box office performance of Dune: Part Two point to a third part being able to increase its budget. Hollywood is starting to realize, meanwhile, that blockbuster pictures are become too costly and that belt-tightening in the next several years is likely as studios find more reasonably priced methods of producing films. Dune: Though Ferguson's most recent comments imply there are major challenges to overcome, Part Three is most certainly going to happen.
Currently available on Max are Dune and Dune: Part Two.
