How Pull Rates Work in Zenless Zone Zero
Like Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero has banners that work on a chance-based system with guaranteed rewards to help mitigate bad luck. Items from banners come in three rarities: B-rank, A-rank, and S-rank, with S-rank being the rarest. B-rank items, which include Bangboos and W-Engines, are the most common reward and will be the majority of pulls.
A-rank and S-rank items are much rarer. By default, the odds for A-ranks are 7.2% and 0.6% for S-ranks. The odds for specific rewards can vary depending on the banner. The standard banner gives all characters and weapons an equal chance. Limited banners offer exclusive rewards with higher odds for those specific rewards.
Limited Banner Pull Rates
Limited banners give the same odds for pulling items of specific ranks, but there are some key differences once those items are pulled. A limited banner featuring an S-rank reward has a 50% chance of pulling that specific character or a 75% chance of pulling the specific weapon. If the featured item isn't pulled the first time, it's guaranteed on the next S-rank pull.
The Bangboo banner is the only exception to this rule. The Bangboo banner allows players to guarantee specific S-ranks. The first time an A-rank is pulled on a limited banner, which is guaranteed every 10 pulls, there's a 50% chance of it being one of the featured A-rank items. If it wasn't a featured item, the next A-rank pull is guaranteed to be a featured item.
The Role of Pity in Zenless Zone Zero
Zenless Zone Zero has a hidden mechanic called "soft pity" which works similar to Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Zenless Zone Zero also has "hard pity" which guarantees an A-rank every 10 pulls and an S-rank every 80 or 90 pulls, depending on the banner.
Soft pity kicks in around the 75th pull on a banner without an S-rank. The chances of receiving an S-rank reward increase dramatically, reducing the chances of players hitting the "hard" pity cap. While soft pity is not officially acknowledged, players estimate the increased odds to be around 7% per pull.
Zenless Zone Zero: Gacha Explained
Although the Pull Rates in Zenless Zone Zero are mostly straightforward, hidden mechanics like soft pity can make the odds a little confusing. While the hidden mechanics help players, it's still beneficial to understand them when deciding how much to spend on a banner.
