The much awaited prequel to the Disney+ series Andor aims to explore the complex beginnings of the Rebel Alliance, a story that has enthralled Star Wars buffs for decades. Often hailed as one of the best Star Wars television episodes, Andor has won compliments for its realistic approach, gripping narrative, and first-rate writing. The show tracks the early days of the Rebel Alliance and develops Cassian Andor, a central rebel figure into a committed fighter against the repressive Empire.
Especially for its examination of the "Dark Times," Andor shows the sneaky character of the Empire and emphasizes the founding of the Rebel Alliance as a ray of hope against despravity. Though the basis of the Rebel Alliance is already set at the show's opening, the story of the series carries on in Andor season 2. Given this background, the recently revealed prequel to Andor seems even more fascinating and promises to provide a closer knowledge of the founding of the Rebel Alliance.
Three books will make up the prequel, Star Wars: Reign of the Empire, which will offer a whole narrative of the Rebellion's beginnings. Announced soon following San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the first book was The Mask of Fear. Direct following Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the trilogy centers on three Rebel Alliance key players: Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, and Bail Organa.
The Trilogy on The Reign of the Empire is especially important since it reveals the narrative George Lucas first intended. The first cut of Revenge of the Sith was far longer than it would have been for a theatrical release. Scenes involving Padmé, Bail, and Mon Mothma that suggested the founding of the Rebel Alliance were deleted as well as others that suggested Eventually, these sequences—which highlight the trio's conversations regarding Palpatine and their choice to oppose his rule, therefore laying the foundation for the Rebellion—were featured on the DVD version of Revenge of the Sith.
Lucas finally opted to delete these scenes, though, leaving the work of investigating this story to projects like Andor and Reign of the Empire, therefore enabling fans to explore a story straight from the imagination of Star Wars' creator. Set five years before Andor, the trilogy The Reign of the Empire will explore Mon, Saw, and Bail's first efforts at starting a revolt against the Empire in its early years. While Andor shows the Rebel Alliance's growth from a covert group to a full-fledged force engaged in open battle, Reign of the Empire will explore the precise method of its development.
