Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC Endings: What Happens When You Make Choices?
The Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC is one of the most morally ambiguous questlines. This DLC is full of interesting choices that change the fate of the island.
The Sole Survivor arrives on the island and is quickly introduced to the three Factions vying for control: the Harbormen, the synths of Acadia, and the Children of Atom. Each group has its own goals and can be joined and aided.
First Choice: DiMA's Secret
After completing Kasumi Nakano's quest "Best Left Forgotten," the Sole Survivor discovers that DiMA, the leader of Acadia, killed the original leader of Far Harbor and replaced him with a synth.
The Sole Survivor must decide whether to tell Allen Lee, the leader of the Harbormen, or keep the secret.
Telling Allen Lee results in the destruction of Acadia and the downfall of Far Harbor. This is because the Synths of Acadia were maintaining the fog condensers that protect the settlement from fog creatures.
The Sole Survivor can also choose to convince DiMA to turn himself in. This results in DiMA's death and locks out the quest "Reformation." Without the "Reformation" quest, the only solution to the tension between the Harbormen and the Children Of Atom is the destruction of one or both Factions.
Finally, the Sole Survivor can keep DiMA's secret, which unlocks the "Reformation" quest.
Total Destruction
After completing "Best Left Forgotten" and retrieving the nuclear launch key and the wind farm kill switch, the Sole Survivor can choose to wipe out either the Children Of Atom, Far Harbor, or both.
Using the wind farm kill switch will shut off the fog condensers, allowing the fog creatures to overrun Far Harbor. Using the nuclear launch key will launch the nuclear missiles stored on the Nucleus. Alternatively, the Sole Survivor can give the nuclear launch key to High Confessor Tektus, who will use it to destroy Far Harbor.
Destroying Far Harbor will result in Old Longfellow turning hostile and becoming unavailable as a companion.
The Sole Survivor can also convince Tektus that it is Atom's will for the Children of Atom to launch the nukes themselves. This will trigger what they call "Division." The Sole Survivor will have 30 seconds to escape the area.
Reformation
If DiMA's secret is kept and both Far Harbor and the Nucleus are intact, the "Reformation" quest allows for a peaceful ending.
DiMA's plan is to replace Tektus with a more friendly synth version. To do this, the Sole Survivor must gather holotapes from Tektus' predecessor and lure him to a remote location inside the Children of Atom's base.
The Sole Survivor can tell the Brotherhood of Steel or the Institute about Acadia, which will result in the settlement being wiped out and the removal of the peaceful ending option.
Once Tektus is alone, the Sole Survivor can either speak to him or attack him immediately. If the Sole Survivor speaks to him, there is a chance to persuade Tektus to leave peacefully. Once Tektus is dealt with, DiMA will give the Sole Survivor 1500 caps, and the final quest of Far Harbor will begin.
The "Reformation" ending is considered the "good" ending for Fallout 4 Far Harbor by many, as all three factions remain alive. However, it is still firmly morally gray. Both Far Harbor's and the Children of Atom's true leaders are dead at the hands of DiMA and the Sole Survivor, and there would always be the chance of the secret being discovered. After completing "Reformation," Kasumi can be spoken to for the final quest, "Close to Home," where she can be persuaded to return home to the Commonwealth.
