One Piece Finally Reveals the Mysterious "Missing" Character
One Piece finally revealed the last missing Warlord Of The Sea that Ace defeated, and this character might just have the best design in the entire franchise.
One Piece's SBS section often contains interesting pieces of information not found in the main story. Recently, the latest volume finally revealed the mysterious Warlord Of The Sea defeated by Ace. This character could still make an appearance in the series.
In Volume #109 of One Piece's SBS section, Oda revealed the former Warlord of the Sea defeated by Ace was named Hanafuda, also known as the "King Of Lizards" for mysterious reasons.
Oda also revealed that Hanafuda's hobby was collecting Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits, similar to those used by Kaido's Tobbi Roppo. The reasons behind Hanafuda's strange hobby and schemes are still unknown. Oda's teasing answer and Hanafuda's elaborate character design suggest that this character could make an appearance in the series during the Final Saga.
Hanafuda was first mentioned in Chapter #1100. It was revealed that Ace defeated one of the Seven Warlords around 4 years ago, roughly when Vegapunk moved from Punk Hazard to Egghead Island. Hanafuda's defeat by Ace created the vacancy among the Seven Warlords that Kuma was forced to fill after Ace refused to become a Warlord.
Since Hanafuda was defeated years before Luffy set sail, there was no mention of him in the series. Zero clues to his identity existed until Oda's answer in the latest SBS volume.
Of all the Seven Warlords Luffy has encountered so far, Hanafuda undoubtedly has the coolest character design. The illustration in the SBS of Volume #109 shows Hanafuda wearing a long dark coat, large chunky gauntlets, and a plumed helmet, carrying a large scythe. Hanafuda is also revealed to be quite tall, standing at 514 centimeters or 16'10", roughly the same height as Charlotte Katakuri.
Hanafuda's nickname "King Of Lizards" is as edgy as his appearance. This nickname suggests that he might be a user of one of the Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits that he had been collecting.
It's difficult to say for sure if he had any real connection to Kaido and the Beast Pirates, though one possibility is that Hanafuda may have been collecting the Ancient Zoan Devil Fruits for Kaido, which he then gave to each of the Tobbi Roppo.
It's quite rare for Oda to reveal this kind of information in the SBS section. Even crucial details like Zoro's family tree have not been shared outside of the SBS. Fans can only hope that Hanafuda's amazing character design doesn't go to waste and makes at least one canon appearance in One Piece before the series ends.
One Piece is available from Manga Plus and Viz Media.
