Chainsaw Man's Latest Chapter Has Fans Shocked and Disturbed
Chainsaw Man's Chapter 170, "How to Eat Sushi," features a disturbing scene that's got fans talking. It's a scene that calls back to a similar moment in Part 1 of the Manga.
Denji has been through a lot lately. He lost his beloved pets, Power's cat Meowy and Makima's dogs, and had a complicated encounter with Yoru. But nothing could have prepared him for what happened in this latest chapter.
The scene involves Barem, the second-in-command of the Chainsaw Man Church, who was also present during the Control Devil Arc as the Flamethrower Devil. Barem explains to Denji why Chainsaw Man can erase Devils and what needs to be done to see his little "sister" Nayuta again.
The shocking reveal is Nayuta's head appearing on the sushi belt. It’s a scene that immediately recalls the gut-wrenching moment in Part 1 where Denji consumes Makima.
Did Barem Feed Denji Nayuta?
In Chapter 170, Barem insists on Denji eating sushi. But Denji shoves the pieces in his mouth fast, so Barem tells him to slow down and enjoy the food. He then asks the chef to bring the main dish, which is Nayuta's decapitated head, appearing on the conveyor belt just like a sushi dish.
The way Nayuta's head is presented, along with Barem being insistent about Denji eating and the multiple panels emphasizing the food, could mean that the sushi he ate wasn't fish but other parts of Nayuta's body. The fact that when Barem offered Denji the tuna, the dialogue was in bold, just like when he explained the reason behind Chainsaw Man's powers, seems to reinforce this idea.
If Denji ate Nayuta, it could mean that the Control Devil will spawn somewhere in a new host, repeating Makima's fate and taking everything away from Denji once again. This would complete Barem's plan.
Nayuta's Death Might Explain Yoru's Memory Return
In a controversial chapter, Yoru suddenly remembers kissing Denji. Since Nayuta had used her Control Devil powers to make Yoru and Asa forget their date with Denji, her death could be the cause of the War Devil regaining her memory. This means Nayuta's head on the sushi belt might be her real corpse.
However, since the limitations of the Control Devil power haven't been fully defined, the implications of Nayuta's death will likely be explained in future chapters. Still, the scene of Nayuta's head is certainly more harrowing than Makima's death, making it difficult for Chainsaw Man fans to look at sushi on a conveyor belt the same way again.
