Will the MCU's X-Men Be Inspired by Grant Morrison's "New X-Men"?
It's official, Marvel's introducing mutants in the MCU, and fans have a lot of theories on what might come. What's going to happen when the X-Men finally enter? There is a chance that it's gonna be a wild ride back to those "New X-Men" Comics by Grant Morrison.
What's So Big About "New X-Men"?
- You have to be familiar with "New X-Men" comics - from those legendary comics in 2001 - by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. These changed everything about the X-Men - a true X-Men era! You saw this awesome team - under Cyclops - with tons of wild stuff and awesome characters that are totally unforgettable!
- The MCU might have actually revealed its plan, because the new "From the Ashes" era, looks a whole lot like those "New X-Men" ideas - especially the "Krakoa era" of "X-Men comics".
Will We See New X-Men In the Movie?
It could be a lot like that X-Men movie. The new X-Men comic series (titled "From the Ashes".) They just added in tons of "New X-Men" characters - things like the powers that can be enhanced with the "Kick" drug - plus a few others that people will remember!
- We even get a second chance for Xorn - which is so awesome.
- The biggest clue? Cassandra Nova (remember those "X-Men movie status quo" days?). Even though the latest comics had this super-big moment where all those mutants went back to Earth - the comics have returned to the "New X-Men" ideas as if this is the official starting point for Marvel's whole X-Men franchise.
So Where's This Heading for the MCU?
- If it’s a direct adaptation of Morrison's era, that means the Genosha massacre is coming - it’s actually the central part of "New X-Men" that's still memorable today. Then there's that super cool Weapon X - which has tons of hidden secrets about those mutants. It's awesome to see these wild concepts making a return.
- Grant Morrison's "New X-Men" brought new depths to this world, too, it was more than just battles and explosions. We learned about "mutant culture", too. Think of the clothing, the arts - it was this whole different world for the X-Men! This was definitely an ambitious and epic era! Even though we might not see "New X-Men" exactly like that in the MCU, they have the perfect tools. We have "X-Men ’97" which has its own way of using Morrison's "New X-Men" to make the story feel fresh, but we are ready for it all, and you have to remember that Marvel is not shy about introducing new characters and expanding on its universe.
- This could totally bring in even more of those superheroes and villains. It's not just about those familiar ones - we could have stories with the awesome Iron Man as he's been corrupted and maybe those crazy ideas with Doctor Doom, but let's hope that the MCU gets its "X-Men era" right, too.
Fans love this "New X-Men" era - there's just a bunch of awesome twists in these comics, and we know that "New X-Men" had a super special place in comic book history - there is even a huge community that calls it their favorite run. We'll just have to see how it'll translate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and find out when those amazing mutant adventures kick off on the big screen.
