Orphan Black: Echoes - Examining the New Cast and Characters
Though long-time Orphan Black viewers will identify a few names and faces, the sequel to the popular sci-fi series, Orphan Black: Echoes boasts an original cast of characters. Developed by Anna Fishko, the sequel inherits the universe of the original series and is set in 2052. Echoes centers on young woman with amnesia Lucy (Krysten Ritter) and Dr. Kira Manning (Keeley Hawes), instead of Emmy-winning star Tatiana Maslany's array of clone sisters. Kira is most famously the now-adult daughter of Maslany's Sarah Manning, the only Leda clone with a kid.
Though thirty-seven years have passed since the end of the original series, Orphan Black: Echoes preserves many of the best aspects of that show. First of all, the show's central propulsive mystery, Kira and her wife trying to assist Lucy and grasp her identity, reminds me of the Leda clones' path in Orphan Black. With its 10-episode first season, sequel Orphan Black: Echoes reminds fans of the reasons the original series became so immensely popular — and lot of that is due to the amazing array of characters.
Lucy's actor is Krysten Ritter.
Actor: Ritter is most renowned for portraying characters with either a dark or sardonic streak, or in the case of some projects, both, although she has starred in everything from Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars to 27 Dresses. Ritter got the lead parts in the comedy series Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and the Marvel-Netflix blockbuster Jessica Jones following a breakout moment in Breaking Bad as Jane, a woman whose death serves as the trigger for Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) slide into genuine villainy.
Character: Lucy's amnesia experience drives Orphan Black's mystery forward, hence defining the central protagonist. Like Orphan Black's Sarah, her will to discover what's actually going on untangles the sci-fi-infused storyline of the show.
Dr. Kira Manning: Keeley Hawes
After rising to prominence in literary adaptations such Our Mutual Friend and Tipping the Velvet, Hawes went on to headline the BBC spy series Spokes and Ashes, which combines fantasy with crime drama and police-procedural aspects. Regarding voice acting, Hawes portrayed Lara Croft from various video games before Tomb Raider recast Lara Croft in its 2013 relaunch. The performer is a wonderful fit for Orphan Black: Echoes simply from her varied range of genre-spanning roles.
Character: The young Kira Manning daughter of Sarah Manning in Orphan Black turns out to be a great asset to the researchers trying to find the cause of the Leda clones' mystery as well as the secret to resolving the sisters' continuous health issue. Though Sarah makes every effort to keep Kira from turning into a pawn, her childhood is not the simplest. Still, Kira would do anything for her family, and that attitude seems to transfer to her now-adult Echo persona.
Amanda Fix acting as Jules Lee
Actor: Amanda Fix is a relative newbie who has lately starred in several well-known productions. She notably performed younger Margaret in Amazon Prime Video's Emmy-nominated Daisy Jones & the Six as well as Maya in High School, the Amazon Freevee adaptation of Tegan and Sara's bestselling memoir of the same name.
Character: Jules merely heightens the mystery around Orphan Black: Echoes' heroine and identity; she is an adoptive teen of rich parents who looks shockingly like Lucy.
Jack as Avan Jogia
Actor; singer; director; author; activist Avan Jogia has portrayed several genres' worth of roles in TV series and movies. Projects including Caprica, Victorious, Twisted, Ghost Wars, and Tut are among his major TV successes. On film, Jogia has starred as the venerable Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City and Zombieland: Double Tap. Jogia also started the LGBT campaigning group Straight But Not Narrow.
Jack, a former Army medic and single father, essentially plays Cal and Paul from Orphan Black; he is loyal and compassionate, but he also possesses some quite valuable military experience.
Orphan Black: Reflective Deeper Dive
Orphan Black: Echoes is the follow-up series to the 2013 original. Krysten Ritter starred as Lucy in Echoes, a woman searching her place in the world. She will soon find out she might be involved in the clone experimentation that former heroine Sarah Manning and her "sisters" were running. The show unfolds 37 years following the first Orphan Black season.
Although the original Orphan Black series addressed issues of identity, family, and the nature of humanity, Orphan Black: Echoes keeps exploring these subjects and probes the complexity of cloning and its moral ramifications. The show also offers a distinct dystopian universe in which social control, power relations, and the notion of family are called into doubt as cloning is accepted and begs problems. Combining mystery, suspense, and action with a rich cast of characters, Orphan Black: Echoes is an engaging and provocative sci-fi series.
