"Something IS Coming": Contemporary Family Revival Notes Get Clarifying (But Still Mysterious) Response From Star
Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family helps to clear those persistent Revival suspicions. After a whopping 250 episodes, the five-time Emmy-winning comedy has been the frequent target of a possible reboot; yet, with the show's 15th anniversary approaching and Ferguson sharing a picture on social media showing him visiting the mockumentary's set, the conjecture has grown lately.
Ferguson, who portrayed Mitchell Pritchett, revealed in an interview with Screen Rant at the Tribeca Film Festival that something is in development about Modern Family as he pushed the film All That We Love. Though Ferguson doesn't say exactly, the actor stated that the project is not a reboot and might not be better than one. Review the quotation below:
Regarding a revival, what has the modern family cast and crew said?
Levitan underlined a resistance to revisit the narrative, resonating with others connected with the Emmy-winning comedy.
Talking about his short-lived Hulu Sitcom Reboot, Steven Levitan openly discussed the prospect of resurrecting Modern Family with the main cast. Although the series producer underlined he was appreciative of the experience, he also said the hit comedy show had its time. Levitan underlined a resistance to revisit the story, which matched others connected with the Emmy-winning comedy. He said he enjoyed the way the show progressed.
Modern Family has already tried a spinoff.
Still, as the 15th anniversary looms, it seems likely that the Modern Family Revival project under development could prove to be an on-screen reunion.
It came to light back in June 2020 that a Modern Family spinoff had been in discussion. Inspired by an idea by Levitan, it would center Mitch and Cam (Stonestreet). The project stagnated and, according to the most recent information, is not moving forward. Ferguson did, however, disclose in June 2022 that screenplays for the Cam and Mitch spinoff exist.
The Inheritance of Modern Family
The Sitcom Modern Family tracks the unusual Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker family as they redefine what constitutes a modern family. Broken into sub-families, the three different groups challenge the nuclear formula with empty nesters, adopted children, gender neutrality, and more as they negotiate the several hazards and humorous escapades of their dysfunctional but loving family dynamic.
Hulu and Peacock carry Modern Family for streaming.
The Contemporary Family Reboot
Rant for Screen: Your Modern Family teaser lit the web ablaze. About what's coming, what more could you tell us?
For Jesse Tyler Ferguson: You will be somewhat letdown; I have no fresh material. I have informed others of approaching events. And something IS approaching, but not a reset. I enjoyed doing this quite a bit.
Screen Rant: Not quite a reboot, something better?
Jesse Tyler Ferguson: I suppose I should hesitate to say that. [Laughter]
Viewers might be guessing about the show's future. There have been lots of rumors and debates following Modern Family's farewell. The opportunities are limitless.
Comments Made by the Cast
Played Gloria in the show, Sofia Vergara has reflected Levitan's worries. The actress said she thought it was too early to bring the program back since Modern Family just ran off the air for less than half a decade. Those notes came in January of this year. In more recent interviews, the actor changed her Modern Family revival posture somewhat and expressed enthusiasm about returning to her breakthrough role.
Jay's actor Ed O'Neill also said he would be open to revisiting the hit comedy should the rest of the ensemble participate. Bringing back the performers and crew to reflect on the show's highs and audience it has developed, that might prove to be a reunion special. As of yet, though, it's unknown whether any planned or spontaneous reunion will be staged.
