Martin's Mad Max Opinion: Comparative Analysis with Rotten Tomatoes
When it comes to his opinion on the most recent two Mad Max films against the second and third releases in the genre, Martin could be in the minority. Based on aggregating reviews from reviewers, the Tomatometer ranks Mad Max: Fury Road as the best franchise entry, ahead of Martin's personal favorite, The Road Warrior. Though it places the current Mad Max movie well ahead of Martin's other fave, Beyond Thunderdome, the Tomatometer agrees Road Warrior is superior than Furiosa.
Martin concurs that in terms of visual spectacular and Action choreography, the "80s Mad Max films and the newest ones are not comparable." According to the author, the storytelling of the new movies falls short. Two areas he believes are very absent in Fury Road and Furiosa are supporting characters and world-building, which Martin also like in Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome.
Author of Game of Thrones Shares Why Furiosa Is Not the Best Mad Max Film
Author of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, claims Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is not the best film in the series. Once headed by Mel Gibson, the George Miller-directed epic with just $144 million worldwide in three weeks of release has had unsatisfactory box office returns for the fifth movie in the long-running Action franchise. Though Furiosa's promise of an immersive big-screen experience may not be attracting audiences, critics have been quick to applaud Miller's most recent Mad Max franchise accomplishment—shown in the movie's 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Though Martin insists that The Road Warrior and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome are still better than the most recent Mad Max franchise entry, and fact are both better than the highly regarded Fury Road, Martin is also anxious to present Miller his flowers for Furiosa. See below Martin's comments taken from Not a Blog:
Furiosa: Prequel Investigated for a Mad Max Saga
Furiosa, an action-adventure movie set in prelude to Mad Max: Fury Road, chronicles the origin tale of the headstrong and daring adventurer. Set soon after the "end of the world," Furiosa is abducted and presented before a strong warlord now under orders to labor for him. Furiosa will adjust to the new hostile and dry environment she develops into and find her way back home.
Fans of the franchise should probably show great interest in the action movie Furiosa. Seeing how this prequel explores the Mad Max universe and links with the major storyline will be fascinating.
Examining Martin's Mad Max
I saw FURIOSA on an Imax screen last week. Still, oddly absent from the most recent Mad Max movie. Regarding action directors, George Miller is the only one I believe to be better. Particularly in Imax, the fights in FURIOSA are quite remarkable.
Miller naturally had more money to work with this time. The first MAD MAX, I believe, was created with spare change he discovered in his sofa cushions. Fudiosa very likely cost more than the first four Max films taken together. Based on its structure, it might have easily been five distinct films or perhaps three television shows. Anya Taylor Joy, who portrayed Furiosa this time around, was great. Although it was used to more advantage on FURY ROAD, the Citadel is a fantastic set. The girl who performed Furiosa as a child was amazing, as was Tom Burke (Praetorian Jack) and Chris Hemsworth as Dementus.
Still, ROAD WARRIOR remains my favorite Mad Max film overall. FURIOSA and FURY ROAD would still score lower than the second and third Mel Gibson flicks even if they both have strengths. Though the action scenes are massive, the worldbuilding, the supporting characters, and the stories cannot match the bigger and more expensive recent ones.
A larger budget does not equal a better movie.
Over forty years have gone hath the Mad Max Franchise been running on. The amazing images, action, and concepts of the film series have drawn committed viewers and earned significant praise. The future of the club excites many of the supporters.
Though majority of the critics agree with Martin, Rotten Tomatoes' ratings show another viewpoint. The franchise has a lot of interesting upcoming developments. Seeing the new movie directions will be interesting.
Theatres are presently presenting Furiosa.
Though Martin disagrees about Beyond Thunderdome, most people agree Road Warrior is a fantastic accomplishment and a pioneering action movie. In Martin's view, a bigger budget does not always translate into a better movie; moreover, showmanship cannot replace strong narrative and engaging characters.
Though Martin has a quite opposing opinion on Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, he is quick to compliment the actors' performances and loved the IMAX viewing experience of the movie.
