Dexter: Original Sin, the upcoming prequel series, now boasts a Grey's Anatomy star among its expanding roster. Set 15 years before the debut of the original show, the new Dexter Prequel has already included younger iterations of the character developed by Michael C. Hall including Shadow and Bone's Patrick Gibson. Evil's Molly Brown has been hired to play his foul-mouthed, adopted sister Debra while Christian Slater is scheduled to portray his adopted father, Harry Morgan.
Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has joined the cast as Captain Aaron Spencer, according to Variety's new report. Said to have a decades-long friendship with Slater's Harry Morgan, Dempsey's character would see the young Dexter start a forensics internship under direction of the Miami Metro Homicide Department. Celebrating Dempsey as a renowned actor well-known worldwide for his past performances, Paramount Global co-CEO Chris McCarthy said they are happy to have him join Dexter: Original Sin's all-star ensemble. Please find his remarks below:
Renowned actor Patrick Dempsey is well-known worldwide for his performances and famous roles he has portrayed. It gives us great pleasure to have him on our all-star cast of Dexter: Original Sin, the much awaited franchise origin tale.
Although the cast announcements for Dexter: New Blood have revealed some well-known personalities will show up in the next prequel, Dempsey's Captain Aaron Spencer highlighted one character that is conspicuously absent. Previously played by Geoff Pierson in the original Dexter cast, Deputy Chief Tom Matthews was a close friend of Harry Morgan and would have been Homicide Lieutenant at the time Dexter: Original Sin is set.
Given Tom Matthews's key position in the original show—often offering insight into Harry's tenure as a homicide detective—it is odd that a younger rendition of his character has not yet been revealed. Rather, the prequel seems to have added a fresh character—Harry's murder partner and closest buddy Reno Wilson's Bobby Watt—into the mix. The probable discrepancy begs some fascinating issues since Watt is never mentioned in the original play and Matthews is the one alleged to have been Harry's best friend at the time.
Based on the character developed by author Jeff Lindsay, Showtime's Dexter Morgan, the most talented blood spatter analyst from Miami Metro Police Department, hunts for criminals who have evaded punishment in order to meet the demand of his Dark Passenger to kill. Dexter must tread the tightrope of apparently fitting into society while always fueling his dark impulses, but, utilizing the guidelines his adoptive father taught him to stay undetiscovered. Dexter encounters multiple serial killers as his façade gradually falls apart; with each issue his Dark Passenger addresses, another one surfaces for his suburban fatherly life. Dexter takes issues into his own hands and even compromises the investigations of his colleagues when he takes things personal or believes the law is failing. Dexter ran on Showtime for eight seasons before getting a mini-sequel series called Dexter: New Blood, which picked ten years following the events of the program. For Prime Day, each season costs just $9.99.
Dexter: Original Sin has the chance to explore the moral complexity and character development of Dexter Morgan, thereby offering a better knowledge of his early years and the forming years that molded his particular view on life and death. Along with fresh characters like Captain Aaron Spencer and Bobby Watt, the inclusion of well-known characters like Angel Batista, Maria LaGuerta, and Vince Masuka points to a rich tapestry of relationships and dynamics that will be examined throughout the series.
Dexter: Original Sin features confirmed appearances from Angel Batista (James Martinez), Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian), and Vince Masuka (Alex Shimizu). Still, given Dexter's original emphasis on Miami Metro Homicide's internal dynamics, Matthews's character will probably still show up. Furthermore, his time under Dempsey's Captain Spencer could possibly reflect the same hostile relationship he would subsequently encounter with the final Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta. In the meanwhile, Dempsey's inclusion simply fuels curiosity in what could be a quite interesting prequel project.
Original Sin offers a gripping trip into the beginnings of Dexter Morgan's dark passenger, examining the complicated relationship between Harry and Dexter and the events that shaped Dexter's particular code of behavior. Dexter: Original Sin is set to be a must-watch for fans of the original series as well as for those who are brand-new to the franchise with a star-studded cast and a gripping plot. The show might open Dexter's universe and address long-standing doubts regarding the character's beginnings and objectives.
