Like past versions, Alien: Romulus is about a space crew in the desolate depths of outer space contacting the most horrible lifeform in the cosmos. Nonetheless, the crew in this film will be younger and less experienced than it has ever been. They are fresh to the work, not seasoned specialists like Dallas or Ripley. Alien: Romulus is primed to be an Alien slasher film with this emphasis on younger heroes being picked out by a violent attacker.
Ridley Scott's classic original Alien movie was in some respects a Slasher. It centers on a group of people caught in a remote area being picked out one by one by an unrelenting death machine. Scott, however, focused the movie more like an Agatha Christie whodunit than toward the gore. And the crew consists of qualified people. Álvarez is trying to create an Alien slasher movie—something this series could have done decades ago—by concentrating on ignorant twenty-something characters and leaning more strongly into the cosmic fear.
It seems as though the Alien franchise needed fresh genres to survive after Cameron turned to all-out action and Álvarez turned to a blood-soaked slasher. This is simply a matter of fact: the basic idea and genre framework of this series only allow so much. The core of the show is a killer E.T.; without turning to new genres, that would get boring and repetitious fairly quickly. With any chance, Alien: Romulus can start an other wave of Alien movies.
Romulus comes in as the seventh Alien movie. Fede Álvarez is directing the film, which will center on a fresh youthful set of protagonists confronting the terrible Xenomorphs. Romulus is a stand-alone movie and sets in a period not yet covered in the Alien series.
New elements of Alien: Romulus imply that it is exploring a new Horror subgenre, something the series should have started with. Alien: Romulus, set to premiere in theatres on August 16, 2024, will take place between Alien and Aliens as a space crew full of fresh faces investigates a deserted old space station and comes across the bloodlustful xenomorph. Rising stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Isabela Merced have been collected by Don’s Fede Álvarez.
When Álvarez said he intended to compile the finest elements of Alien and Aliens in Alien: Romulus, it raised questions about whether he would merely recycle prior ideas instead of forging a new path inside the Alien mythology. James Cameron changed genres from the "haunted house in space" arrangement of the original to more of an intense action thriller, which helped Aliens to be so successful. Given the most recent information regarding Alien: Romulus, it could be looking for its own genre venue after all.
The Alien franchise's history is vast and rich, with the movie in development ranking among the top grossing films. Since its 1979 opening, the idea of the film has evolved. The show got more action-packed and less Horror-oriented as the franchise went forward. Fans will be excited about the upcoming movie despite adjustments it underwent.
Alien: Covenant from 2017 marks the most recent addition to the series. The movie ran under criticism for not meeting viewers' expectations. The latest film will open as a new endeavor to improve the franchise. The outstanding cast and director of the production will surely draw attention and ensure its success.
