S.W.A.T. Season 8 Loses Important Cast Member For Another CBS Program
Although the actor will appear in another CBS show, S.W.A.T. Season 8 is losing a key cast member. Twice the Shawn Ryan-made action drama series, which stars Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson (Moore) and his squad, has remarkably avoided cancellation. Just weeks before the expected series finale, CBS turned around in April and announced it was renewing S.W.A.T. for season 8. But there was a clear on-screen shift accompanying that unexpected comment.
Rochelle Aytes, who plays Nichelle Carmichael, will not be returning as a series regular for S.W.A.T. Season 8 per Deadline. Nichelle is Hondo's wife, so it is said that producers wish to keep the performer in a recurrent part. Aytes is joining the forthcoming CBS show Watson connected to Sherlock in the meanwhile. With no additional expected exits for the core cast, season 8 is also believed to have a new female character as a SWAT squad member in a recurring capacity.
Nichelle Carmichael has long history on S.W.A.T.
Aytes starred in about 40 episodes and initially showed up as Nichelle Carmichael in S.W.A.T. season 3. Originally presented as an employee at the local community center, the character was positioned as a potential love interest for Hondo. That relationship bloom, and by season five Nichelle was expecting Hondo's first child—who turned out to be a girl, Vivian—and the pair were happy parents.
Aytes seemed destined to be more prominent on the show. Season 7 of S.W.A.T. features married Hondo and Nichelle. Outside of the primary partnership, Nichelle also starts working for the Office of the Inspector General as a police performance assessor. The most recent update, however, is positive—that Aytes can keep her regular place on the program.

Shemar Moore's S.W.A.T. spin-off TV show has so far gathered numerous seasons. These are some of the finest episodes.
On CBS, the show is among the most watched ones; it has also ranked among the Top 10 for multiple seasons. The show is one of the more action-packed police procedurals since many of the most fascinating narratives of the series come from the early seasons, thus it appeals to many of the fans. Considered as a pillar of CBS's schedule, the show still attracts a lot of hype and viewers.
Fans find the spin-off to be among CBS's most action-packed shows, so it is rather popular among them. The show has a high-stakes action series set in Los Angeles and the same degree of depth and mystery that it is known for.
Among several Sherlock projects already under development, Guy Ritchie's forthcoming Young Sherlock series is only one that seems particularly intriguing.
Written by Craig Sweeny, a Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu drama Elementary writer and producer, Watson is set to air later this year. With seven seasons and more than 154 episodes, the Elementary Sherlock rendition might prove to be a long-term possibility that still lets Aytes shine as Nichelle Carmichael. S.W.A.T. might also be her long-term prospect. That is especially true given CBS hosts both shows.
Aytes's leaving will obviously leave a vacuum on the series given the audience attention the show has attracted. Still, the show is probably going to be a hit with viewers given various fresh characters and narratives are slated.
