Will Smith Discusses Working With "Brilliant Actress" I Am Legend's Dog That He Nearly Adopted
Star of *I Am Legend*, Will Smith compliments Abbey, the German Shepherd co-starring with him in the 2007 hit film. Based on Richard Matheson's 1954 book of the same name, the movie tracked virologist Robert Neville (Will Smith) as he lived among the wreckage of New York during a zombie-like epidemic. The movie grossed $585 million worldwide and got generally good reviews. Smith's Robert travelled with a German Shepherd called Samantha for most of the movie.
While struggling with spicy chicken wings in an episode of *First We Feast's Hot Ones*, Smith recalls his former co-star Abbey the German Shepherd. He said he almost adopted her after being astounded by her command execution for their scenario. See the whole video and quote below:
The death of Samantha in I Am Legend Remains Heartbreaking Even After 17 Years.
Given the proliferation of the virus, Samantha is an important figure since she is all Robert has left after losing her wife and child upon virus strike. Her loyalty to Robert, especially in the pivotal moment when Samantha saves Robert from the infected canine, makes her a memorable person hence not surprising.
Samantha's sad ending in the second act of the movie marks one of the most agonizing animal deaths in movie history. After the Dog gets sick with the infection, the protagonist tries to cure her with a viable treatment but sadly it fails. The sequence finishes with Robert having to mercy-kill Samantha, a visual and aural impression on many spectators to date. Even although Samantha's death affects many viewers, her death does not go in waste. A necessary sacrifice in the movie, it helps mankind to be restored.
An Inside View of Abbey the German Shepherd's Life.
Absolutely. Absolutely. Abbey speaks English, as you know. One could say, "Hey Abby do you see where I left my phone?" It was the strangest thing; she could actually understand you. Of her family, Abby was the breadwinner. She was obliged to remain. Watching the part where she bites bites where we have to execute the scene where I choke her out and she lies out was just fantastic. Abby is acting this way. I laid Abby; he taught her to go limp. Like how would one teach a Dog to go limp? He would say Abby die while she bit bit bit. And she would go; I placed her down. It resembled working with a great actress.
This is the kind of gratitude and devotion Will Smith's co-star deserves. Abbey was an amazing dog who demonstrated the extent animal trainers would go to for their work. This thrilled supporters to witness Abbey's level of training.
an other I am legend ending
The sad ending of the movie, in which Robert gives his life to preserve Anna (Alice Braga) and the future of mankind, almost completely rules out any obvious chance for a sequel. Still, Will Smith will return and Michael B. Jordan will feature on *I Am Legend 2*. The screenplay for the sequel is now under development and will presumably follow the alternate *I Am Legend* ending, whereby Robert survives. This also implies, hopefully, that the sequel would spend time considering Samantha's legacy and sacrifice.

The Original I Am Legend
Richard Matheson's 1954 book of the same name inspired *I Am Legend* to feature Will Smith as Robert Neville, a virologist believing he is the last man on Earth. Neville discovers he is impervious to the plague once a virus turns most people on Earth into vampire-like creatures known as Darkseekers. Believing himself to be the last man on Earth, Neville hunts throughout the ruins of New York in search of an antidote to save mankind.
Though *I Am Legend* had a major influence on the horror genre and is an unforgettable film, it is hard to determine if *I Am Legend 2* will be a fantastic movie. The most current changes for the movie provide viewers with a great cause to look forward the next one. The sequel might be an amazing carry-on of the plot of the film.
