George's Funeral Was the Best Episode of the Big Bang Theory Franchise.
Young Sheldon was, fundamentally, a family comedy, even if it never shied away from exploring darker subjects. It covered mental health issues involving Dr. Sturgis and Paige as well as interpersonal problems including adultery and adolescent pregnancy over its course. Its single-camera approach made it more suited to execute all these narratives than The Big Bang Theory was. It relied on dramatic events that made Young Sheldon a better program overall without the artificial laughter. At least it lacked the dubious humor of The Big Bang Theory, which plagued it for years.
But George's death and Funeral constituted Young Sheldon's crowning gem. Storywise, it is better than anything The Big Bang Theory has ever produced. Though not as moving as what its forerunner achieved, it did have some poignant moments. Young Sheldon's approach of George's last fate is a masterclass in combining drama and humor. Though they were meant to underline the gravity of the Coopers' plight, it featured humorous portions. As Meemaw honored George's life and legacy, her Funeral address embodied it in a way that was both hilarious and sad.
"It Hit Me Pretty Hard": George's Funeral Ruined Lance Barber's Plan To Prank Young Sheldon Cast
Though Lance Barber had all kinds of ideas for how to film George's burial in Young Sheldon, he finally found he unable to execute any of them. George's death from an unexpected heart attack came first, then Young Sheldon's last hour was dedicated to two main narratives beginning with the Cooper patriarch's send-off. The family was negotiating the death of George and making Funeral decisions during an agonizing half-hour. For the cast of The Big Bang Theory prequel, filming the episode was really quite emotional as well.
Barber says The Hollywood Reporter in an interview that he had pranks ready when they filmed George's funeral, wanting to diffuse the suspense and also add some humor to the set. Ultimately, though, he was taken aback by the emotions of his colleagues and was unable to execute any of them. See his full quotation below:
young Sheldon Finale
The Young Sheldon conclusion is among the greatest TV ends in a long time, even with a hurried last half hour. Two of the prequel's best qualities were heart and humor. Given the bar set in terms of The Big Bang Theory franchise's narrative, Georgie and Mandy's first marriage fits quite nicely.

Prank Strategies by Lance Barber
I'm going to ruin a lot of takes. Though I had a fake mustache and a fart machine, I soon understood how intense the experience was. These performers lined up to talk to George and spend special time with him. I lay there with tears in my ears; I didn't pull any of my funny wagers. In a way I hadn't expected, I was hit very hard.
The show's producers were clearly aware of the importance of this episode, and it's nice to know the actors took it seriously. The ending of the show confirmed the emotional effect of the work.
The success of the episode should be taken into account by the show's creators on how they may strengthen on legacy. Given the series's growing popularity, this episode is among those most praised for its emotional resonance capacity.
