Uncertainty has defined Blue Bloods' future for some time, and it has been noted that the season 14 renewal arrived only following challenging talks. The extension apparently came with awareness that season 14 would be the last.

With more than 11 million viewers an episode once multiplatform viewing was considered, it was the most watched primetime series on Friday nights. Having won its Friday night in terms of total viewers every year since its premiere, it had lately been the third most-watched television series.
Given the approaching series finale, Blue Bloods seems certain to have a Spinoff. Under the Tom Selleck-led Police Procedural, the Reagan family's multi-generational clout within the New York City criminal court system is tracked. On broadcast and streaming, it has been a regular ratings performer, so surprising audiences and industry watchers when the drama was canceled late last year. The narrative might not be finished yet since TVLine notes that Brian Robbins, co-CEO of Paramount Global, said a new Blue Bloods show is under development. Robbins's remarks were made during Paramount's annual stockholders' meeting, owned CBS. Robbins said in part, "In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods," praising the potency of the company's television series and noting already confirmed Spinoffs. The headlines precede the December of this year series finale for Blue Bloods.
The cancellation of Blue Bloods follows a pattern whereby shows are canceled independent of their rating performance. Among the trends are The Good Doctor, Station 19, and NCIS: Hawaiʻ�. This is mainly due to long-running series typically costing more at a time when networks and studios are both adjusting their plans and trying to save money in light of decreased ad income and general reduced live viewing.
Blue Bloods, a Police Procedural set set in New York City, chronicles the life of the Irish-American Reagan family, who has a rich family legacy and current significant responsibilities in the New York Police Department. The show has run for several years, and its long-lasting appeal is very remarkable.
Though that's not exactly the case and it's still to be seen whether long-time executive producer Kevin Wade joins the new project, a spinoff allows the narrative to keep on.
