Back is Cameron Diaz! She's returning to acting with several interesting projects in store after ten years away from the limelight. She's starring in the action movie "Back in Action" with Jamie Foxx and a crime drama called "Outcome," but her performance in the much awaited sequel, "Shrek 5," really makes her comeback infinitely more exciting.
Originally voicing Princess Fiona in the "Shrek" series back in 2001, Diaz's famous voice has come to define the cherished character. It wouldn't feel right to consider anyone else speaking for Fiona. Her reprising of her part for "Shrek 5," so, is a great relief and gives her comeback to acting still another level of thrill.
A star-studded espionage action comedy, "Back In Action" most certainly has appeal. Still, "Shrek 5" seems like a more suitable returning movie for Diaz. Her return to the part brings a sense of familiarity and nostalgia difficult to replicate given her long-standing relationship with Princess Fiona.
Although Diaz is exactly suited for "Back In Action," the movie wouldn't necessarily fall apart without her. Conversely, "Shrek 5" just wouldn't be the same without Diaz's Fiona voice. It is fundamental in the character and her legacy.
Therefore, even if "Back in Action" could be a more popular comeback, "Shrek 5" is the one Cameron Diaz and her supporters value more. It's an opportunity to revisit a beloved character and a nostalgic component of her career. The comeback seems absolutely complete.
