Rotten Tomatoes for Inside Out 2 show it is a worthy follow-up.
Living up to the standards of the Academy Award-winning $858.8 million blockbuster is no easy task, from both a critical and audience standpoint Inside Out is among Pixar's best pictures. Expecting much, Inside Out 2 turns out to be among Pixar's best sequels ever. A major component of that accomplishment is Riley's snappy writing, which finds her internal and external narrative repeating one other in a pitch-perfect manner. The coming-of-age film doesn't let down by balancing simple, entry-level psychology with abstract, creative expressions of the mind and really funny comic flair.
Like Toy Story 3, Inside Out 2 develops alongside its audience, doing what only the best Pixar successors (and properties) accomplish. Toy Story 3 explores what it's like for Andy, the owner of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, to let go of bits of his past and forward to his next chapter instead of being caught in-time or repeating something familiar. Likewise, although their lives have centered on Andy's happiness for years, the toys learn to hang less securely to a college-bound Andy.
Inside Out 2: Notes Praise the Story, New Emotions, & More
Under the direction of Pixar veteran Kelsey Mann (Turning Red), Inside Out 2's narrative opens soon after the original movie with Riley, now 13-year-old, beginning high school. Riley's five emotions have produced her human sense of self, a storehouse of memories and emotions that define her uniquely in the period between movies. The "Puberty Alarm" sounds inside the headquarters of the emotions one night, therefore inspiring some mind workers to improve the control panel. Joy discovers that "the others" are arriving and that Inside Out 2 soars for those fresh emotions.
Reviewers especially particularly lauded Maya Hawke's scene-stealing Anxiety... Teenage emotions join Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear (Tony Hale), and Disgust (Liza Lapira) with anxiety (Maya Hawke), envy (Ayo Edebiri), the always bored Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). Though Inside Out 2's roster of characters elevates the chemistry, laugh-out-loud moments, and moving asides to new heights, the previous movie already possessed an amazing comedy ensemble. Teenage mood swings and intense emotions do, after all, exactly justify the insertion of fresh emotions. Reviewers of Rotten Tomatoes especially have complimented Maya Hawke's scene-stealing Anxiety, a high-intensity feeling that grips Riley powerfully.
Rotten Tomatoes Score of Inside Out 2 Comparatively To Movies of Pixar
Apart from justifying its existence, the Pixar Sequel shows that its narrative is essential viewing. Inside Out 2 also has to grow alongside Riley as she plunges into the depths of adolescence. In the first movie, Joy discovers—lock-step with Riley—that it's normal to be depressed occasionally. Actually, one's development depends on going through a range of emotions. Riley and Joy are similarly thrown upon fresh complementing paths, allowing the Pixar sequel to not only justify its existence but also show that Inside Out 2's plot is ideal watching for children, teens, adults of all ages.
Though there are a few candidates that might challenge Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two's box office triumph, it has been 2024's most successful film thus far. The follow-up to the 2015 original movie, Inside Out 2 features Riley, a young child with a literally head full of emotions. The all-star group brought to life the feelings teenagers experience as they develop, evolve, and adjust to new circumstances: Amy Pohler as Joy, Bill Hader as Anxiety, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger. Currently under development, this Sequel will see Amy Pohler returning as Joy with Riley, a now-teenager.
Why Do the Rotten Tomatoes for Inside Out 2 Show Such High marks?
Following Pixar's Oscar-winning Inside Out, Inside Out 2 has received overwhelmingly positive reviews that match the success of the first 2015 movie. Under the direction of long-time Pixar director Pete Docter (Up), Inside Out follows Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and the five anthropomorphic emotions battling for control of her mood and behavior. Four other basic emotions accompany Joy ( Amy Poehler), the de facto leader: Fear (Bill Hader), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Anger (Lewis Black), and, naturally, Joy's opposite, Sadness (Phyllis Smith). She is appropriately perky, driven, and optimistic.
Riley's life is turned upside down when her family abruptly moves from rural Minnesota to San Francisco, California. Riley is a joyful, hockey-loving child. Riley's five most significant "core memories" shape her personality, which shows itself in floating islands within the preteen's skull. Although Amy Poehler's Joy sees Sadness as an extraneous, burdensful mood, Riley's coming-of-age is clearly flavored with the sad sensation. Riley's life begins to fall apart when Joy and Sadness find themselves far from mission control; Joy then learns that it is quite normal to be sad too.
