Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Demand Better
The most recent teaser shown at Ubisoft Forward 2024 simply shows the developer admitting that it has nothing fresh worth presenting but that it hasn't forgotten about the title since the Sands of Time Remake was announced back in 2020. The game should come out in 2026. Though the lack of any fresh gameplay or cinematics does not port well, maybe this proves to be a more definite release date than the first one set for 2021 and the latter date for 2023, twenty years after the original, was released.
There was a gameplay teaser that matched the original 2021 release date back in late 2020, but it did not wow. Many fans of the franchise were let down by the poor graphics quality of the game, given the current generation was fresh at the time. Clearly, Ubisoft fell short of the 2021 release date and most likely returned to the drawing board in response to the bad reaction to the Remake's footage.
One Beloved Classic: Sands of Time
More often than ever, beloved classics like Sands of Time have been remastered; Prince of Persia's crown gem merits such kind of attention. Outstanding remakes of Final Fantasy 7 and several Resident Evil games forward the graphical authenticity and provide gamers with a realistic view of their beloved characters. Sadly, the paucity of footage leaves fans unsure about whether the game will be more like the original gameplay footage or closer to the finest remakes.
Using the current RE Engine, Resident Evil has rebuilt its original four games RE 2 through RE 4.
Could Ubisoft reverse it?
Usually, silence on expected projects is not good, particularly following pushback. Although the teaser doubles as a release date revelation, it helps even less; most release date teasers show some in-game footage. The cynics will argue that because of its very protracted creation period, the game has been rebuilt from the ground up and suffers a classic case of development hell.
Still, the teaser made clear Ubisoft still remembers the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The optimists could argue that the developer reacting to the criticism and choosing to resolve it accounts for the protracted silence. Though it isn't yet revealed, hopefully it will result in the remake being all fans want.
Among the most popular games in the industry, Sands of Time brought the brand to its zenith back in 2003.
Though the series has been riding rather high lately since the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the Sands of Time reboot seems to be caught in a state of continuous purgatory. Ubisoft's brief cinematic shows that, despite being revealed in 2020, little has changed with the title in four years.
The most famous game in the Prince of Persia series and one deserving of a remake is The Sands of Time. Though based by what Ubisoft has showed of the remake thus far, it also deserved a better movie than the 2010 rendition. The latest teaser appears more like an announcement for a game that has long since been revealed; the original's inventiveness and genius are nowhere to be found.
Two Prince of Persia books debuted this year.
Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia.
Though all the new projects the Prince of Persia franchise has under its belt, no fresh in-game video of the Sands of Time remake has been seen since the gameplay presentation in 2020. The lack of gameplay fails to depict the state the game is in and whether there will be a significant shift from the unsatisfactory video from years past. Ubisoft's quiet on the game until recently means that the most recent teaser merely notes that the game is still under development and hasn't been forgotten; there's no indication if the remake will fairly respect the original.
Dead Cells reframed as an entrance in Ubisoft's franchise appeals to the Rogue Prince of Persia, but some enjoyable platforming alone isn't enough for EA fans.
Great new addition to the Metroidvania subgenre providing players with original combat and a fun time is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
