Is M. Night Shyamalan's New Thriller, "Trap," Worth Seeing?
This latest thriller from M. Night Shyamalan is about a killer on the run with a lot of tension and crazy twists and turns - all set around the chaos of modern-day Concerts.
What Is "Trap" About?
It’s got some famous actors: Josh Hartnett (we all know he's super good in his Movies! - Pearl Harbor, anyone?), as this character named Cooper who seems to be the ultimate supportive father - at first - but really a big scary villain.
Now, if you're a fan of the whole Shyamalan thriller world - it really does take a big, dark turn. You'll love this! He’s trying to escape getting caught, but with those tricky plans, he only winds up getting caught in an epic Trap, making this a really suspenseful story.
Did It Do Well?
- Critics and viewers seem pretty divided. It's got a Rotten Tomatoes rating - around 45% from the critics and 65% from audiences - so there is a huge mixed bag of responses!
- They even think "Trap" is doing a pretty good job at the box office!
Where Did "Trap" Get That Title?
It turns out, it's a whole lot about those phones that people take out during modern concerts, and the mayhem that follows!
But Wait, "Trap" Is Also a Concert Movie?
- We get this cool, edgy singer (she even uses the name Lady Raven), and her big performances. Now, this is where things get really intriguing! It turns out Shyamalan's daughter, Saleka (that's her real name!), was the one behind the whole music for this movie! So it's actually kind of a family affair!
- There is one really obvious critique that's actually kind of funny: Cooper, the killer, thinks that using your phone at a concert, like modern concerts, totally ruins it. So, when you see a phone getting pulled out - there is definitely some hidden meaning - especially since you know Shyamalan's got that whole dark twisted world!
So, is "Trap" just about killer-thriller action or something more? It's up for debate - it actually tackles something we all deal with! Those phones, in the movie theater or at a concert - there’s something to be said about being distracted!
