Furiosa: A Movie That Deserves a Second Chance
Look, Mad Max: Fury Road was incredible! A classic. A true masterpiece of action cinema! Seriously, anyone who wasn't blown away by the sheer artistry, creativity, and adrenaline rush was probably watching something else. It's a timeless movie. And Furiosa, the prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy? Let's just say it’s not the sequel everyone expected! Now, we're getting news that Furiosa's gonna get a second life on streaming!
Now, you probably saw all the news reports – it wasn't exactly the box office smash that Fury Road was, and, to be honest, it was kinda a letdown. We know why a lot of people stayed away: the movie's release almost a decade after Fury Road had cooled off that wild frenzy of hype and excitement for Max. Plus, everyone had to give Tom Hardy a chance, as Mad Max in a follow-up movie. And Furiosa had its own new cast - not all of it made waves. To top it all off, the CGI seemed a bit more like an anime vibe than that gritty, visceral look that Fury Road was all about.
Is Streaming The Answer For Furiosa?
Maybe it was the release time too! They dropped Furiosa during summer! Now we have it hitting Max this August and everyone who missed the original release has a second chance to watch the film! And let’s face it, we’re talking Anya Taylor-Joy! You know how iconic she’s been lately - I bet she has plenty of fans already excited! Warner Brothers probably hoped this would re-energize the movie and all its potential. That's kinda a smart play if you ask me.
I can’t help but hope this will get people talking about the film all over again. I've got a good feeling it might turn things around for Furiosa too. If we are looking at a Streaming reboot of The Suicide Squad from 2021 (you know, James Gunn's movie) as an example, I don't think Furiosa is going to get that "missed it" treatment anymore!
Furiosa Was Kinda Successful (Just Not at the Box Office)
I remember when everyone started talking about how well it did on VOD - it became a top seller almost as soon as it dropped! It shows that a lot of people love the story, maybe they’re not thrilled by those big, fancy theatre seats! But, let’s get real, those Streaming views don’t exactly pay the bills. Warner Brothers wants money! This is why they're counting on Max to kick-start Furiosa’s legacy and potentially turn the tides.
But this might also be a lesson for future Mad Max Movies. It was hard to compare the film to Fury Road, with that gap between the movies and a bunch of new characters – even though the original Max character showed up, played by his stunt double. Even those awesome Mad Max movies had a huge time gap between them - 30 years, can you believe it? What this all means, we have no idea. There’s nothing about it on any production boards that I’ve heard! It feels like the entire franchise is just on pause for the moment.
What Makes This Mad Max Saga Different?
We have to look at the future of Mad Max, and with the failure of Furiosa, things seem up in the air, as the Mad Max universe was a whole other situation! The previous Mad Max Movies with Mel Gibson focused more on self-containment and adventure. It's not really like you have to have watched previous movies to follow the main plot! You got that bad-ass wasteland, new challenges, a lot of great characters. This was more about how the story came to life!
Now, Furiosa really felt like a companion story to Fury Road, kind of like a necessary prequel. It's more about that larger picture of events. The production company had to have had a gameplan because the Mad Max sequel, "The Wasteland" is still floating out there and probably depended on how Furiosa performed in the Box Office.
A Wasteland of Possible Mad Max Projects?
It might take time, like years and years, but it feels like Max will be back! He’s basically an icon, so we're not worried about him vanishing for good, no way! But with the whole Furiosa experience, there is a bit of anxiety in the air. Warner Brothers probably needs a little time to reassess those big projects before they invest a ton of money into anything, especially since we’re talking the world of Mad Max.
But hey, that's why the magic of Mad Max is still there, with the insane world George Miller’s created. Those epic action scenes are hard to top, so we can't wait to see what’s going on, even if we have to wait to see how things come to life! The future is open, with maybe a bit of doubt in the air, because you never really know what will be happening next!
