The Original Boy Wonder's Kryptonite
Hold on tight because things are about to get super dramatic for Nightwing! Our boy Dick Grayson is in a pickle, thanks to a totally debilitating fear of heights. It started out as just a little fear of flying, but now it's reaching Kryptonite-level, causing a major breakdown for Dick in his superhero life! This whole 'Fear of Heights' thing is really messed up.
We see in Nightwing #115 that Dick ends up being dressed like some random villain, armed with a creepy "heart-removing gun." Yeah, pretty intense! This dude, Heartless, is about to cause a whole lot of trouble, and to make matters worse, the Bludhaven cops see the real Nightwing doing all sorts of supervillain stuff – thanks to that disguise.
What Makes this Whole Fear of Heights Thing a Big Deal?
It's one thing to be afraid of heights. It's another thing when a Fear of Heights literally keeps you from doing what you are best at as a hero: soaring across the skies like the cool, acrobatic dude we know as Nightwing. No more jumping between buildings for this guy; he's stuck on the ground! This is major bad luck!
There's another thing – Dick ended up getting shot! Luckily, not in the head, but he still ended up captured. What a bummer! And, to top it off, everyone knows Nightwing was that crazy supervillain all along – so his reputation is about to take a huge hit, and probably a long fall from grace as Bludhaven's beloved superhero!
Is Batman the Knight in Shining Armor (Again)?
Remember that whole "Ric Grayson" amnesia arc from a few years ago? Okay, good news! Dick's not turning into some cab-driving amnesiac again – but with his new weakness, his ability to clear his name and save the day seems nearly impossible. Luckily, that's where the rest of the Bat-Family comes in!
Batman, our beloved caped crusader, seems to have heard all about the crazy events in Bludhaven. Looks like a little Batman hero moment will occur soon because we're seeing a teaser where Batman himself is all dressed up in the Nightwing suit! It might just be a small part of the story but the Bat-Fam has this super solid bond and we can bet they’ll try to help Dick get back to his usual acrobatic ways, get rid of the whole villain persona and win back the trust of those Bludhaven citizens.
Is There a Cure for a Fear of Heights, or Will Dick's Career Be Grounded?
Everyone wants to see Nightwing soaring back to those heights again! It would be a massive blow for Dick Grayson, a legend as the Original Boy Wonder. Fans and readers have been eagerly waiting for him to be free to bounce between those rooftops again, to do all those cool acrobatics and heroic moves, especially after all that amnesiac business! What happens when your strength, your confidence, and maybe even your identity gets put on the ground? The Bat-Family and Dick’s fans hope this turns into a learning experience that leads him back to those high skies once again, without those villainous guns and disguises! We are in for some intense drama and action! It will definitely be an interesting twist to Nightwing's character and will hopefully result in another legendary comic series.
What Happens Next for the Nightwing
The most important takeaway from this is that everyone's super excited to see how Dick Grayson overcomes this fear. The good news? The whole Batman/Nightwing connection is super popular and we're bound to see some action-packed rescue moments soon, proving just how awesome the Bat-Fam is. Let’s face it, you can’t really write Nightwing out of the picture so easily! Even the coolest of characters will face trials! Hopefully, we'll soon see this talented hero regain his confidence!
