The Missing Eye of the World Prologue: The Wheel of Time Season 2 Raises Questions About a Key Book Scene
The Wheel Of Time has been building its mythology carefully in the show, with plenty of familiar moments from Robert Jordan's novels being adapted for the series. But it seems like the show skipped over the prologue from "The Eye of the World." You know, the very beginning of it all! This part introduces Lews Therin Telamon, the Dragon of the Age of Legends who happens to be the reincarnation of Rand al'Thor.
We get to see Lews Therin in his final moments, facing the consequences of a really bad situation, "The Breaking of the World". In these scenes, we also get introduced to Ishamael, the villainous dude who played a role in Lews Therin's descent into madness. A lot of viewers felt it was strange that the series had decided to miss out on this essential storyline since it's one of the core components of "The Wheel Of Time" as a whole!
Ishamael’s Banishment: A Shift in the Timeline?
Things have already gotten really interesting for those following the TV series, because season 2's final moments provided a revelation: during those early days in the Age of Legends, Lews Therin banished Ishamael to the shadowy Shayol Ghul, preventing him from being reborn into the world! However, this seemingly put the final nail in the coffin when it came to Ishamael's storyline and it made viewers wonder, what could it mean for that prologue scene, which happened way later, when Lews Therin was losing his mind? The TV show already messed with the timeline and cut out parts of the books' history, so who knows if they will actually add in those essential prologue moments!
That prologue also saw Ishamael heal Lews Therin, which was not about doing a nice thing - more like an attempt to show the tragic impact of Lews Therin’s madness. The show did make it clear that Lews Therin went mad and that’s what triggered the end of the world. It just doesn't show us exactly how Ishamael's actions influenced all that, or if Ishamael actually showed up for the grand finale of Lews Therin’s world. The whole scene left us feeling confused, because if it’s their final interaction, then why on Earth would we still see the scenes where those two were fighting at the end of Lews Therin's life?!
How Could “The Wheel of Time” Make This Work (With Those Awesome Time Twists)?
So how could they make this work? Let’s get into some juicy fan theories! If they want to bring back that missing prologue, there’s a few things that could be going on in the series.
First, they might reveal that Ishamael's banishment didn’t really stick; maybe he snuck out from Shayol Ghul to cause some chaos and help along the Breaking of the World? If the writers want to stick to the show’s already complicated storyline, it wouldn’t be a terrible explanation, especially since that time-bending Wheel makes just about anything possible. But it would kinda cheapen the finality of that awesome moment in season 2. There’s another theory – maybe Ishamael could be able to manipulate the One Power and reach out to Rand while he’s locked away, just messing with the kid's head. That would also be super freaky since they could still bring back that classic “Eye of the World” scene. But this would feel out of character since that particular moment is where the two were supposed to really reconnect after a long, tense separation.
Could “The Wheel of Time” Bring Back That Scene With A Different Villain?
We can all imagine how difficult it might be to keep all of those Ishamael scenes in while doing those big plot twists! Maybe “The Wheel of Time” show is going to make some pretty big changes to bring that epic prologue scene to life, by featuring another big bad instead of Ishamael? Maybe it's going to have another Forsaken step into those tragic memories and bring the story of Lews Therin's Madness to life!
This makes sense! After all, there’s a whole bunch of evil Forsaken lurking in those stories! They might decide to feature Asmodean, Demandred, or even Rahvin. Maybe those dudes are ready for a starring role, and this could set the scene for an awesome showdown in a later season, right?
Why That Eye of the World Prologue Is a Must-See (No Matter What They Do)!
For the fans who are still sticking with the show - or those new to this universe - the "Eye of the World" prologue is essential. You need that insight to really get into Rand's journey. Sure, there's Logain who's already shown the dangers of the One Power. But you have to understand that it's not about the power – it's about what can happen when people mess with that kind of cosmic energy! To really get the idea of how scary it could be to mess with the One Power, and why everyone fears the Dragon, we've gotta see how it affected Lews Therin.
As “The Wheel of Time” keeps rolling forward, there’s gotta be more focus on what's happening with Rand and his insane, yet super-powerful abilities. If he goes too far down that path, his future won’t be about saving the world – it will be about the end of it! Those who haven’t seen the prologue are kind of missing a really powerful and emotional part of the story.
