Starfield's Trackers Alliance: A Missed Bounty Hunter Opportunity
Bethesda's Starfield, despite its vastness and ambition, isn't perfect. The recent Trackers Alliance update added a whole new sub-faction and radiant quests, but sadly, one aspect feels seriously undercooked.
The Trackers Alliance, a group of Bounty Hunters, brings in a new mechanic: a bounty board that's packed with potential. You can scan and interrogate criminals using Starfield's trusty Scanner, but this exciting element only gets a single spotlight moment in the entire questline.
Scanning & Interrogating Are The Most Interesting Parts Of Trackers Alliance
At the start of the "Starjacker" quest, the thrill of using the Scanner to track down a criminal, Adrastos, is real. You're not just scanning for resources anymore; you're actively hunting a wanted person. And the interrogation? It's another cool moment that adds depth to the quest.
However, after that initial quest, the scanner feels like a Missed Opportunity. You can find random criminals, sure, but the interactions feel generic. They don't have any unique story elements or dialogue. Even the hostile ones feel a bit silly, just standing around and letting you get away with shooting them.
Interrogating Random Targets Feels Incomplete
Imagine all the scenarios that could have been added! A criminal hiding clues in their apartment, leading to a thrilling side quest. Maybe a criminal with a sob story that allows for a moral dilemma. Or, how about a criminal who's actually innocent, leading to a deeper investigation?
The Trackers Alliance is a fantastic addition to Starfield. It's just a shame that Bethesda didn't fully explore the potential of scanning and interrogating criminals. It could have been so much more than a one-time novelty.
