Worf the Rocker?
You know Michael Dorn, the guy who's been playing Worf in Star Trek for what feels like forever. He's done everything from Star Trek: The Next Generation to Deep Space Nine to Picard, and you can't mention Star Trek without picturing him in that famous Klingon uniform. You've seen him in the movies, too, like The Undiscovered Country - this guy is synonymous with Star Trek. And we're about to share the biggest shocker: the stoic, noble Worf is also a pretty great rocker!
Seriously, Worf the rocker? I know it sounds bizarre, but get ready because Screen Rant got the inside scoop: At Trek to Vegas (STLV), a Star Trek-themed party for hardcore fans, Michael Dorn, rocking out on a bass guitar, joined The Action Figures for an awesome performance. This isn't some casual party gig either! The Action Figures have members of The Orville (Scott Grimes) and Heroes (Greg Grunberg) as part of the crew! It gets better; Worf took to the stage and rocked out to a song we never saw him singing to in the Star Trek universe — “Return of the Mack." Now that's some unexpected entertainment from our favorite Klingon! We had to check it out for ourselves, so see the video and believe it for yourselves!
Worf's Future: Is There Life After Picard?
Okay, let's shift from a surprising musical career back to Star Trek's galaxy. We all remember Worf returning in Star Trek: Picard's final season! I think most Star Trek fans would agree that Michael Dorn's Worf presence in Picard was one of the highlights. And yes, we had that bit with Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), and let’s just say that Worf wasn’t afraid to make a few enemies, too! For all the "new" Worf they introduced - the more pacifistic version - we got a little dose of what made Worf, well, Worf: the Klingon warrior who knows how to get a job done. This time around, they went a bit softer on the character. We'll miss seeing Michael Dorn rocking that uniform.
But, let's just say it’s too early for a proper farewell. The news had it that Picard's new show "Star Trek: Legacy" was getting set for production. However, the production company pulled the plug on it, making those of us who were hyped a bit heartbroken! But never fear! There's still a bunch of new Star Trek series happening in the works. With so many shows under the Star Trek umbrella - we might see Worf turn up on one of those projects in a guest appearance! Even if it's just a cameo!
Beyond Picard: A Klingon Still Ready for Action
We already mentioned that Michael Dorn is one of the OG members of the Star Trek crew who hangs with his fellow cast members - a really wholesome bunch - but what about Michael, the man behind Worf, when he's not acting? Michael is also a pilot, teaching one of the actresses on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Melissa Navia) to fly a plane! What?! So, basically, this man is super cool: a Star Trek icon, a bass player who can rock out to “Return of the Mack," and a pilot? The Star Trek: Picard series may be finished for the time being, but this guy isn't going anywhere.
Even if Worf doesn't land a spot in a brand new series right now, I think he’ll find a place back in that galaxy. The best part about Worf is he’s so beloved - a true legend in that universe. And even though Star Trek has moved on with new adventures, there’s still a good chance the upcoming series might want to revisit some old stories, or at the very least, those great character cameos, so the chances of seeing Worf back on screen? Yeah, I'm giving them good odds! It would be amazing to see what else Worf's got up his sleeve!
One Last (Unlikely) Hurrah!
Even though Michael Dorn had his moment with The Action Figures, maybe, just maybe we'll see some musical moments from Worf in the future? It’s not outside the realm of possibility for an amazing, rock-star version of Worf to be seen on screen — if the new show runners are brave enough. You have your Klingon opera, but imagine some amazing metal, punk, or even jazz performances. Honestly, Worf and The Action Figures performing? This is some crazy-good fan art we can only dream about!
Regardless of whether or not we see Michael Dorn rocking out in his new musical direction in a future episode or on screen again, the legacy of Worf will stay with Star Trek for generations to come. Even if he gets cast as some kind of cosmic musician with a big voice. You never know. Michael Dorn’s a man of many talents! We're stoked to see where he takes things next!
