King Kull: A Shazam Villain's Terrifying Return
Hold onto your capes, comic book fans! King Kull, a classic Shazam villain, is back and looking scarier than ever, and he's not just targeting Shazam - he's threatening the entire DC Universe!
While many focus on Black Adam or Mister Mind, Shazam's rogues gallery is full of surprising villains with incredible potential. And in the latest issue of Shazam #13, one of the most despicable foes makes a return with a twist - he finally fulfills his evil promise.
King Kull's Time Has Come
King Kull might not be as famous as Black Adam or Doctor Sivana, but he's a powerful enemy for Shazam. He first appeared in 1951's Captain Marvel Adventures #125, a caveman from Earth's prehistoric era and leader of the Sub-Men. He faced Shazam and his allies during the golden age of Fawcett comics and even made an appearance in DC's Shazam revival in the 1970s. However, after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Kull's appearances were limited.
Kull initially appeared in the lighthearted style of the Golden Age, which while not diminishing his evil nature, made him seem less menacing. But in Shazam #13, his new look dispels any notion that he's a goofy villain. He looks downright terrifying, and it's clear that he's a genuine threat to the DC Universe.
Could This Lead to Other Shazam Villains Getting a Reboot?
King Kull's rebirth as a major threat to the DCU could be a sign of great things for Shazam's rogues gallery. Shazam has a collection of amazing villains, but many have been underused in favor of more popular foes. Some villains, like Sabbac, have already received updates that unleashed their full potential. Josie Campbell and Mike Norton have done the same for King Kull, making him a villain worthy of Shazam.
It's exciting to imagine what other villains could get a similar reboot, and it's a sign that Shazam's world is full of untold stories just waiting to be told.
