Is Xavier's Dream Dead For Good?
Xavier, that awesome dude with all the mental powers in the X-Men - he had a big dream - to get Mutants and humans to chill, no matter what humans do to them. Well, "From the Ashes", which is the current storyline in X-Men comics, is making it pretty clear that that dream is officially gone! It was totally impossible.
Did Xavier's Dream Fail Because of Humanity?
Yeah, basically. There's a young dude in a new X-Men story - his name is Prodigy and he really calls out Xavier's idea. You know, with humanity acting really terrible to the Mutants!
- Think about all the trouble they had in those early X-Men comics - humans kept attacking mutantkind, even hunting them down! Humans have always done awful things.
- You know what was so sad about it all - that Xavier made the X-Men the protectors of the people who were hurting them! He asked them to keep going, keep protecting the humans, even though the humans were terrible!
But... the X-Men Still Try to Live Together With Humans. Why?
It's a weird thing! The whole Krakoan Age where the X-Men got their own super-sweet mutant society, kind of put it all on hold, but after that whole Krakoan mess? Now they're back with Humans - even the X-Men team! But most of the mutants, not just in the stories, won't stand for all those abuses they've had to take from humans for so long. The story, 'From the Ashes', actually shows how divided the X-Men are about all of it!
Will Things Ever Change for Mutants?
- It is almost like it is written into their history! A lot of people have been pushing for those mutant rights but have also been super aware of how things will always be so unfair.
- After all the fighting that went down during the World War Orchis - and how human governments basically supported those messed-up, hate-filled groups trying to get rid of the X-Men and basically trying to commit mutant genocide?
- Yeah, they have really lost hope for those human allies. That's where Xavier, that real peace-loving guy - made a crazy decision to sacrifice his image - they said he turned into this super nasty 'Butcher of Krakoa' character - he knew they would be going through another fight.
Where is the Dream, then?
We've got a bunch of superpowers, crazy adventures - so it's always hard to feel the struggle - but what it comes down to is that even Xavier’s friend - the powerful Magneto - is seeing it now, but in his way.
The good part is that we'll see more X-Men action! It might even be that those new X-Men teams might learn about how humans and mutants can get along - maybe Xavier's Dream wasn’t as wrong as everyone thinks, so it'll be a fun time to check those X-Men comics out, and really, you might actually want to see for yourself, what happens!
