Past in Spy x Family Was Bright Yet Jaded: Donovan Desmond
In Spy x Family chapter 99, Donovan Desmond is presented as a charming but cynical high achiever at Eden Academy as Henry's mentality collapses with Martha entering service as a fighter for Ostania. Early indicators of his suspicious character show in his handling of classroom disputes, assertion that humanity would never be free from war, referencing history, and the general human nature of dishonesty. Henry listens to Donovan's arguments all the while, hardly paying attention instead yearning another letter to ensure Martha is still alive in Spy x Family.
Though direct, Donovan Desmond seems to be an average, precocious boy struggling with the harsh reality of war as only a child seeing from the sidelines could. Although his natural trust problems are not clear-cut, Spy x Family runs on the running subject of he not daring walk outside without an escort or accept presents or company from strangers. But when Donovan invites Henry back following the teacher's temporary fall from grace, the two exchange a sincere heart-to--heart and Henry shocks Donovan with some moving wisdom at the close of Spy x Family chapter #99.
Donovan reminds Henry of what really matters.
Believing Martha to be dead, Henry loses it at an Eden Academy conference, first hinted at in chapter #97 when he is ridiculed for his non-violent views in Spy x Family. Speaking against the mythologizing of human life sacrificed on the war front, he is taken away to jail as a traitor. As the first pupil Henry visits outside of prison, Donovan inspires him by reminding him that the class hardly developed while he was away and by using some provocative language.
This is a turning point in Spy x Family when Henry, disturbed by Donovan's misanthropic views, is reminded that he sought employment as a teacher to help to create peace for next generations. Even if Donovan Desmond is the major enemy of the show, these kinds of scenes challenge him yet can still be sympathetic yet misinterpreted at least until viewers are completely aware of Donovan's sinister truth. Given the theories about him and some obvious scars, it's also not likely the last time readers will be able to get peeks into Donovan's past.
Enigma of the Desmond Family
With its dad, Donovan Desmond, hovering over Spy x Family as its major villain, the Desmond family is perpetually mysterious. Apart from his role as Chairman of the National Unity Party, not much is known about him nowadays save how important it is for Loid Forger to meet with him and maybe broker peace. Though a lot of him is unknown, chapter #99 of Spy x Family offers an unexpected insight at Donovan Desmond's history as a student at Eden Academy.
In Spy x Family, Donovan's mature self is shown as an infamously untrusting politician who is abrupt even in attempts at polite contact. Even if each of his children is a remarkable achiever, he has been mercilessly frugal with his compliments for Loid's benevolence in early arcs and rejected down it in casual manner. Though Donovan's upbringing is presented as shockingly naive through Henry Henderson's flashback of his early teaching career at Eden, his jaded attitude is initially somewhat startling.
Spy x Family can still investigate more Donovan Desmond's narrative.
Given his most important formative events haven't occurred in this flashback, Donovan's appearance in Spy x Family chapter #99 seems somewhat innocent compared to his mature state. Though vague, his haircut hangs much lower in the flashback than in the present, where readers would see no scars above his temples. This allows one to investigate what caused those scars and whether they support a current fan theory implying Donovan or others in the Desmond family can read minds in Spy x Family.
Apart from hints to tests on P.O.W.s in Spy x Family chapter #98 and a probable relation to Project Apple, the series offers no justification for Anya's telepathy. With the clear and sinister possibilities of telepathy for geopolitical goals and to defend the man's famously dubious behavior, Donovan's hand in this could be readily understood. But there might also be a more direct link, including Anya and Donovan's apparently identical opinions on Spy x Family's humanity's ability for lying.
Spy x Family's Ongoing Story
