Jujutsu Kaisen: It’s the Opposite of Naruto!
Did you ever wonder why Jujutsu Kaisen is so different from other anime like Naruto? It turns out, that was totally on purpose. This was actually planned, and Jujutsu Kaisen is taking an opposing approach to Naruto - but not in the way you’d expect.
What is Jujutsu Kaisen like?
- Jujutsu Kaisen, is an anime about jujutsu sorcery, curses and high school students. The cool part is that it follows Yuji, who is kind of the main character, after he makes the ultimate decision: he eats the finger of a demon, so he can become one! Crazy!
Is it Really the Opposite of Naruto?
You’re not just imagining things, those similarities to Naruto are pretty spot-on. Naruto is another shonen anime that follows a character who takes on the curse/demon of the 9-tailed fox!
- It is like a reverse take on a big story from Naruto. If Naruto is the heart and Yuji is the other side of the coin! In Naruto, Naruto eventually befriends the fox, Kurama, right? They team up - it's all love! Jujutsu Kaisen creator, Gege Akutami, has confirmed those similarities.
- But it turns out that was an inspiration for how he wrote Yuji and Sukuna’s relationship, to be something that was just so completely opposite. It gives Yuji and Sukuna’s storyline a whole different kind of meaning.
Where Does The Jujutsu Kaisen Inspiration Come From?
Well, beyond Naruto, there's another series Jujutsu Kaisen borrows from, which is Bleach! That one’s where Ichigo gets pulled into the supernatural world.
What's Different about "Yuji"?
- Yuji is so awesome! He actually gets caught in a huge problem from the get-go but it's actually him who makes the big decision. This completely changes how Yuji and Sukuna team up.
- The thing is, Yuji never really gets close to the powerful curse - he doesn't try to make friends with him! He still battles against that evil! It's a little more complex but it's kinda what makes Jujutsu Kaisen so cool, you can't just ignore the whole thing.
There are tons of awesome shows that Jujutsu Kaisen borrows inspiration from. This definitely sets the scene for this modern anime series! With the anime growing in popularity, it will probably make it just as loved as Naruto, even if it’s more intense!
