Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes' Cameos & That Big Leo Reveal Explained
In the final episode of That '90s Show part 2, "Friends in Low Places," Red and Kitty took off for the airport. Once they were gone, word traveled fast that the Forman house would be adult-free, and a massive high school party quickly broke out. Luckily for Leia, everyone went home without much incident, and she believed for a brief moment that the party hadn't caused any damage and she would escape Red's wrath. However, just as she gave a sigh of relief, a car came bursting through the wall of Kitty Forman's dining room.
The drivers of the car were That '90s Show guest stars Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, who are known for playing the stoner comedy characters Jay and Silent Bob in a variety of Smith's directed works in the 1990s. As the two emerged from the vehicle in the middle of the dining room, Tommy Chong's Leo appeared, announcing that Smith's character, Sonny, was his actual son, there to take the mantle after his retirement. It's a hilarious, though somewhat outrageous, way to end That '90s Show Part 2, and part 3 will have to explore how Leia and the gang will handle the car-sized hole in the wall before Red and Kitty return.
Nate Hints He Wants Nikki Back In That '90s Show Part 2's Ending
Before That '90s Show Part 2 abruptly ended with a car crashing through the house, there was a development in Nikki and Nate's situation. After the pair broke up following Nate's realization that he and Nikki had been growing apart for quite some time, they each processed their heartbreak in different ways. However, before long, they were casually sleeping with one another, promising that they wouldn't do it again just before diving back in. This all changed when Nikki had a pregnancy scare, and the couple decided to call it quits for good.
However, the ending of That '90s Show Part 2 indicated that this wouldn't be so easy. During the house party at the Formans', Nikki took a dare to perform "You Were Meant For Me" by Jewel—a fitting '90s anthem—and Nate was surprised to discover how beautiful her voice was. The look on his face made it pretty clear that he was having some regrets about breaking up with her, and Jay warned him not to "do it" since he just got over her. However, it was already a done deal. Nate has got it bad for Nikki, and That '90s Show Part 3 will surely see him grapple with that reality now that she has moved on.
Will Red & Kitty Actually Get To Paris?
In That '90s Show part 2, episode 7, "Baby-Baby-Baby," Red had a heart attack scare, and his experience with his hospital roommate (played by cameo guest star Wayne Knight) made him realize that he needed to live his life to the fullest. This leads him to surprise Kitty with the trip to Paris she had always wanted, and the final episode of part 2 sees the couple take off for the airport. However, just as they were preparing to board the plane, Red revealed that he was terrified of flying, and the germaphobic teachings of an intoxicated pilot, played by comedian Matt Rife, didn't help matters.
Just as the flight was about to finish boarding, Kitty announced that they would go home if that's what Red wanted, but she made it clear that he would no longer be receiving home-cooked meals or other marital privileges. This led Red to change his tone pretty quickly, and the last the pair was seen in That '90s Show part 2, they were getting on a plane to Paris (with a layover in Atlanta). While it certainly seems that Kitty's dream is coming true, the news that a car crashed into her kitchen could change things. Perhaps after landing in Atlanta, the Formans will have to zip right back to Wisconsin.
Gwen's New Long Distance Relationship With Cole Explained
Gwen got her own surprising romance in That '90s Show part 2. In episode 3, "Just a Friend," Leia got a job at Hot Topic so that she could spend more time with Gwen over the summer. This ultimately led to the discovery that Gwen was hooking up with the preppy Abercrombie employee, Cole (Niles Fitch). Cole was far from the type of person anyone, including Gwen, imagined her with, but she ultimately found that she was far more invested in the relationship than she had ever realized.
UnfortuNately, in the final episode of That '90s Show part 2, Cole announced that he was leaving for college the day after the big party. Gwen at first tried to reject Cole entirely, cutting off the relationship so she wouldn't have to make any painful goodbyes, However, after a touching conversation with Ozzie, she decided to spend one last great night with Cole. It's never explicitly stated whether the couple would attempt a long-distance relationship, but given the development of these eight episodes, it seems likely that Cole will make a return appearance.
What's Next For Leia & Jay's Relationship After That '90s Show Part 2
Leia and Jay certainly had a rocky start at the beginning of That '90s Show part 2. At the end of part 1, Leia came far too close to kissing Nate, and when they are caught by Gwen, it was clear they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret forever. Leia and Jay managed a long-distance relationship over the school year, but once back in Point Place, Leia grappled with whether she needed to come clean. Though she ultimately decided not to, Leia accidentally announced the almost-kiss over a live broadcast, and Jay and Nikki both found out the truth.
While this led, in a roundabout way, to Nate and Nikki breaking up, Jay and Leia's relationship survived the drama. The following episodes revolved mostly around Jay attempting to make amends for his past promiscuity, and his relationship with Leia only got stronger because of it. By the end of That '90s Show Part 2, the couple is in a pretty strong place, with no significant conflict indicating any issues in the near future. Of course, That '70s Show has already taught us that situations like this don't typically last long.
Will Ozzie Come Out To His Family In That '90s Show Part 3?
Part 1 of That '90s Show saw Ozzie come out to Kitty as a step toward finally telling his parents that he is gay, and this seemed to hint that future episodes would see this play out. However, part 2 saw relatively few developments in his character. In episode 4, "Hold My Hand," Ozzie expected to finally meet his online boyfriend from Canada but wound up dumped instead. The next episodes saw him cope with his heartbreak, but little else was said about his personal life. This leaves Ozzie open for further development in That '90s Show Part 3.
Why That '90s Show Part 2 Ends So Abruptly
Though That '90s Show part 2 was nearly as many episodes as part 1 (eight episodes compared to ten), the story came to a somewhat abrupt halt. Rather than ending at the conclusion of the summer, "Friends in Low Places" seems to be set relatively early in the season, and the car-in-the-kitchen cliffhanger wasn't quite as dramatic as the end of part 1. This is because That '90s Show part 2, episode 8, is technically only the middle point for the show's second season. The next batch of eight episodes, which will make up the second part of season 2, will stream on Netflix on October 24, 2024.
This means there won't be nearly as long a wait for Leia and the gang's continued story as there was between parts 1 and 2. In a few short months, audiences will learn how Nate handles his returned feelings for Nikki, whether Leia and Jay's relationship bliss will last, if Red and Kitty will ever make it to Paris, and, of course, what everyone will do about the car parked in the Forman kitchen. That '90s Show part 3 is sure to be another fun and chaotic ride as this next generation of Point Place teens leave their mark on the 1990s.
