Jujutsu Kaisen Is Slated to End Sometime in 2024, According to Creator
One of the most important parts of any good story is the ending, making it necessary for creators to realize when it's time for a story to arrive at its natural conclusion. Jujutsu Kaisen has been showing the "final" battle between the heroes and Sukuna for a long time (in the Manga), and it's safe to think that once this is over, the series will conclude soon. Many great series unfortunately dragged out longer than they should’ve, which led to a decrease in quality. This means that if Jujutsu Kaisen ends soon, this may actually be a true blessing and the perfect ending to what has been a fantastic series.
The Jujutsu Kaisen Anime is pretty unique in that it does not contain filler episodes. Some other series, such as Naruto, for example, have been plagued by this due to having to wait for the manga to release new chapters. Filler is often considered to be annoying and taking away from the action, but some people genuinely enjoy it and appreciate the character development and breaks from the larger story that filler can provide.
Akutami Has Revealed That He Already Has Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending Planned
Akutami has also admitted that he already knows how Jujutsu Kaisen is going to end, long before that time ever comes. Since he has a goal in mind for the story's finale, it would not make sense for him to continue the story any longer than is necessary. Jujutsu Kaisen is very intentionally written, with every death, battle, and interaction pushing the story towards its conclusion and further developing the characters and plot. Although many will be sad to see the series go, it is more important for Akutami to properly carry out the storyline he has created.
Especially as of late, Jujutsu Kaisen has been absolutely filled with brutal deaths. Main characters are dropping like flies in every chapter, and one of the most horrifying and difficult for fans was the loss of Gojo Satoru. Although not the main character, Gojo is the fan-favorite sorcerer who added much-needed humor and charm to the series. His death marked a turning point in Jujutsu Kaisen, giving him a chance to "pass the torch" to his successors, Yuji Itadori and Yuta Okkotsu. Gojo was not the only monumental death though. At this point, Yuji has lost nearly everyone close to him.
The Abundance of Deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen Is Setting the Stage for Yuji’s Victory
The loss Yuji has suffered is truly heartbreaking, but necessary to his character development and role in the story. The deaths of mentors like Gojo and Nanami and friends like Nobara strengthened his resolve and sparked his anger at the cruel cursed spirits responsible, making him a stronger sorcerer. By taking these other characters out of the story, Akutami also effectively placed a spotlight on Yuji, making him virtually the only hero capable of stopping Sukuna. By controversially killing off so many characters, Akutami has given Itadori the most important job of all, as the one to hopefully kill the King of Curses.
The true ending of Jujutsu Kaisen is obviously unknown to anyone but Akutami, but Yuji killing Sukuna himself would be an excellent choice as he is the protagonist and has witnessed Sukuna unfairly murder so many of his comrades. The story seems to be steadily creeping towards this point, and although some fans are hopeful that Jujutsu Kaisen could drag on for years to come, this would actually negatively impact the story.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ending May Be the Best Thing for the Series
Yuji Itadori will have to sacrifice something major to defeat the King of Curses, Sukuna, and it's brutally fitting. One thing all the best anime and manga have in common is ending on a high note and Jujutsu Kaisen is certainly set to accomplish this goal. Still, with how unpredictable and unconventional the series has been, there is no telling what surprises Gege Akutami has in store for Jujutsu Kaisen's finale.
