The Point Of Lady Whistledown In Bridgerton Now Really Is Not Clear To Me
Though following Penelope's season 3 confession I'm wondering why the gossip column should continue at all. Lady Whistledown has always been one of my favorite aspects of Bridgerton. Penelope at last told the Queen and the ton she was Lady Whistledown during the last episode of Bridgerton season 3. Her passionate address functioned as a commitment and an apology. She committed herself to use her authority for good. Penelope's disclosure, though, seems to only aggravate Lady Whistledown. Actually, I'm not sure the famous, outspoken persona should even survive into Bridgerton's future.
Seeing what happens to Lady Whistledown helps me to appreciate what Bridgerton was aiming for. Penelope could not be with Colin until she came straight to him, and she could not give up Whistledown without sacrificing some of her self. Her only kind of agency is through the column. But Queen Charlotte's involvement started the plot to get sticky. Penelope told everyone her secret when the Queen was on her heels and the Bridgertons' reputation was on line. Penelope's admission took all the joy away from Lady Whistledown, even if I understand she wanted to apologies for the harm she caused.
Penelope Continuing As Lady Whistledown Doesn't Really Makes Sense
Lady Whistledown doesn't really make sense anymore following Penelope's magnificent statement at the conclusion of Bridgerton Season 3. Penelope is losing what is so fun about Lady Whistledown by pledging to write in a more upbeat style. Lady Whistledown is really harsh and caustic, which makes me like her greatly. She brings the ton down in a manner none else will be able to do. Penelope has offended others with Lady Whistledown, sure, but what she has written is accurate. Lady Whistledown said in season 3, "cannot tolerate a lie."
The idea of the column will be lost if Penelope begins penning Lady Whistledown in a kindergarten manner. Penelope claimed she composed Lady Whistledown to relate to the ton, but at this point she has evolved above it. Lady Whistledown presents a sort of chance for the ton to consider their hypocrisy and behavior. Penelope's stopping of highlighting the ton's offenses will allow their absurd policies and expectations to go unpackled. Given Lady Whistledown's brutal honesty, I believe Bridgerton needs her; nevertheless, I worry Penelope's confession has destroyed this.
The Ton's Reaction To Penelope's Lady Whistledown Reveal Is Not Very Good
Penelope's Whistledown speech's ton's response also offended me in some other ways. Penelope took front stage for the first time ever and exposed the truth everyone yearned to know. Still, the ton did just absolutely nothing. Penelope delivered the response everyone had been waiting for, and everyone watched in quiet. If Bridgerton wanted me to believe that the ton was enraged at Whistledown for what she had written, I should have witnessed a far more significant response than what Season 3, episode 8 produced. All we got was quiet shock.
Whatever the ton's response, I wish Bridgerton had responded at least somewhat. Penelope stated she will probably run across unhappy people later after her speech. I would have loved to see that happen in real-time, though. Nobody seems to have anything to say about the Lady Whistledown discovery, hence it is rather anticlimactic. Colin's deception and Portia's disappointment notwithstanding, the ton brought us nothing. Perhaps it would have been preferable to have the Lady Whistledown's secret finish in a jumble of conflicting emotions instead of neatly but apathetic bow.
Whistledown Reveal Should Have Occured in Bridgerton Season 3
All things considered, I believe Bridgerton handled the Lady Whistledown reveal better. Penelope should first and foremost not have shared her secret with the whole ton. They kept reading the column even if the ton might have wished to confront Whistledown for what she had written. Their delight included the mystery underlying the sharp words of the author. Penelope's anonymity would have allowed the ton to keep blissfully reading Whistledown while still answerable for their deeds. Penelope didn't absolutely have to share with them her intentions to utilize her writing for good.
Penelope should have, in the end, merely told her family and the Queen. Charlotte would not have ceased her hunt even though the ton did not need to be among those knowing Penelope was Whistledown. Penelope should thus have assembled the Bridgertons, the Queen, and Lady Danbury and shared the truth with them. This would have stopped the Queen's witch hunt and let the Bridgertons to find Penelope's truth. Lady Whistledown could then have gone back to be the merciless Gossip Columnist she always was. Sadly, unfortunately, Bridgerton has eliminated my perfect world.
