Did Helaena Know Aemond's Actions?
In the most recent "House of the Dragon" episode, Helaena Targaryen probes Aemond a somewhat mysterious question rather subtly. Some viewers feel this implies she is aware of the events at Rook's Rest, where Aemond attacked his brother Aegon. Let's examine the reasons behind people's speculations and what they could imply for the course of the narrative.
Was the price worth it?
Usually, Helaena's words are evasive and subject to interpretation. She probes Aemond in episode five, "Was it worth the price?" Though apparently basic, this question has significance. Helaena's question begs why and what price she is referring to?
First of all, Helaena is not renowned for her rational thought. Her words flow from visions and intuition. Her dreams could have shown her what happened even though she was not there at the fight.
An expense to pay for
But Helaena is referring to what price? Things become interesting here. It might be Aemond's moral compass lost or his life itself lost. But Aemond doesn't seem bothered about either, particularly with relation to Aegon.
Helaena might also find the crown to be a weight. She seems to see the throne as a horrible thing all through the show. Some supporters feel she gave her baby Jaehaerys up to escape this fate. Now that Aemond is in charge, the price could be the burden and responsibility accompanying rule.
Of course, Helaena's comments allow one to interpret them differently. Though one thing is certain: her words are a potent reminder that even the most apparently basic questions can have great significance. Only time will reveal her actual meaning.
