Harry Potter Reboot: Keep the Nostalgia, Ditch the Smartphones

With HBO Max having announced that there will be a Harry Potter reboot coming out soon, the entire world of fans has been holding its breath in excitement! With so much happening right now with Warner Bros. taking a major move in revisiting this series of classic books from the mind of J.K. Rowling.

While this show looks amazing so far! One thing that stands out to fans, and something everyone is talking about, is the desire from those creating the series that this will be an adaption that is truly based on the books. It looks like each one of J.K. Rowling's seven books will become their own individual seasons! If you ever thought some major parts of the movies were missing you may find an extra layer of depth in this adaptation!

But the whole universe that the stories unfold in is very much about a period set back in time. The idea of adding the most current technology just doesn't feel right and can make things pretty jarring for the audience!

When Harry Potter Began

There are actually some very distinct, historical references.

Take the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone! That has a lot to do with how things unfold! The timeline in this initial story in the series happens from 1991 to 1992. Then Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows brought this universe to 1998.

HBO may think, well if we bring this series to the modern era that will bring a new group of fans to the movies.

That just doesn't sound right, however. That’s the least interesting part of bringing something like Harry Potter to the big screen and could make the magic go away.

No one could imagine how things might change with this magical world.

While Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the heroes of this series have amazing skills, their real power isn't technology but magical forces!

It would be out of place to see things like cellphones, laptops and other modern tools. That could clash in ways that are hard to imagine!

These elements are so special that no one could imagine them not being there.
