The Bosch Universe, a collection of action-packed shows that debuted on Prime Video is expanding!
What started with a series about a cop in Los Angeles has become a truly exciting set of characters for the streaming giant! For the longest time, fans have loved seeing what Harry Bosch was doing next. They also found themselves invested in characters from "Bosch."!
As Amazon started planning new, awesome spin-offs, there were big plans for what it could mean to see more of these characters in their own projects! The newest Spinoff has gotten all kinds of attention! One that may have caught a lot of eyes.
id="the-cancellation-of-j.-edgar"> The Cancellation of J. Edgar:This special project was going to follow the story of Jerry Edgar, a long time partner and a memorable character that had a special bond with Harry Bosch. It seems this new show will never really see the light of day. "J. Edgar", is being axed, just two years after being announced. There were a couple of factors at play!
- Larry Andries was charged with six felony counts of sexual assault.
The show was being written by Larry Andries, so it looks like these accusations played a significant role. In addition, a producer for Prime Video shared that they're choosing to keep their focus on the bigger vision. The plan is to create new characters rather than have spinoffs centered around existing characters that the platform could continue to build upon and use "J. Edgar" for this.
The Franchise Gets A Reboot:
You won't have to miss Jerry Edgar altogether. He had been cast to play a big part! It turns out he would be making a return as well! The Amazon MGM Studios was going to cast Jamie Hector (the actor who was in "Bosch" as well, bringing this Detective Jerry Edgar to a big-screen show that's now canceled! ) The company also went on to share plans for other exciting spinoff shows, as the studio made this special addition to "Bosch," as the star, Maggie Q! And we will see her on screen for "Bosch: Legacy"!
However, that project has gotten a lot more exciting as filming began in July 2024. This special spin-off project, will be a new adventure for audiences to appreciate and gives a lot of attention to these big characters who fans fell in love with during the original show's run! While these spin-offs are going to be awesome for fans!
Prime Video And The New World Of Shows
There's no need to look far! Prime Video gives audiences incredible shows and films. However, this has all the elements of a huge game! Amazon has been trying to expand and they are finding some big wins as they introduce Reacher and Jack Ryan into the mix. For these shows, Prime Video was focused on reimagining the well-loved, beloved, characters!
- There was a big push!
- Those who worked on Prime Video wanted to keep making the characters fans loved even better.
- While that seems like it would be a success, the strategy, as it turns out is going down an even different route.
You can get excited! If Amazon Prime Video makes new series like "Bosch," and these new spinoffs, it's going to take those franchises to even higher levels of excitement.
A move to take "J. Edgar" out, has given the company an incredible chance to do things in a very big way! We don't even need to look too far back at past stories.
- "Bosch: Legacy" brought back some incredible favorites Honey Chandler. It gave Harry Bosch an amazing chance to get more adventures and new problems to solve!
- Season 3 is coming, giving a chance to a whole new crew! What we can learn from Amazon Prime Video, they seem to be really committed to making sure the characters they introduce feel genuine!
If that wasn't enough, the stories these series tell seem to hit a sweet spot with the studio! In "Bosch: Legacy there will be even more stories coming into the world. With the addition of an entirely new character to explore, Renee Ballard, making a big splash.
As Prime Video is doing a great job making the characters in their shows more memorable! While fans have not gotten to see Jerry Edgar return! There are still amazing, new adventures that will keep Amazon and its audience on the edge of their seats for years to come!
