A Powerful Farewell to The Umbrella Academy: Season 4 Finale Review
Get ready for one wild, and maybe a little tear-jerking, journey with The Umbrella Academy! This show, with its crazy timelines, out-of-this-world superpowers, and one truly dysfunctional family, has always had people glued to their screens. Season 4 really ups the ante - we're talking an action-packed farewell for the Hargreeves family. With all the twists and turns we've seen throughout three seasons, Season 4 throws everything at us - a whole new apocalypse (or a whole new "what if"? scenario), and even new characters coming to the forefront!
You can definitely tell the writers decided to go big or go home for their final outing, because everything is packed into six, mind-bending episodes. It's wild to see these siblings change completely. Who knew that Superpowers are like kryptonite to normal, everyday problems! They take on real jobs - imagine! You get some fun scenes where these people just aren’t super heroes anymore (but seriously, don't forget about all the crazy battles with superpowers that make this show special!) It's almost funny, watching these Characters become normal - for a little bit, at least.
The Best of the Hargreeves
Even with the superpowers dialed back a notch, The Umbrella Academy members still shine. Aidan Gallagher as Five? He's got all the right moments in this one too, with his super strong vibes as the family’s central force in solving every crisis. He's so good! Plus, we've gotta give it up for Lila (a real force!), Diego (always ready for a good fight!), and Luther (a gentle giant with a heart of gold), they have the best Storylines of all.
But wait – don’t forget about Ben! He gets his moment to shine here as a full-on character instead of just being the "ghost brother". We’re seeing what it might have been like if Ben didn’t get ripped from the Umbrella Academy years ago, and we gotta hand it to the writers. They went full-on on the Emotional side of things in this one.
A Couple of New Friends... Or Foes?
New faces are also entering the chaos! This season introduces a really funny pair – Gene Thibodeau, played by Nick Offerman (think "Parks and Recreation") and Jean Thibodeau (from the hilarious "Will & Grace", Megan Mullally). They lead this group that wants to stop the Umbrella Academy's apocalypse (even if it was accidental, that's a hard pass for them!)
But don't think the Umbrella Academy's on their own! This one has other incredible cameos like David Cross as Sy Grossman – he makes everything extra wacky. The season also throws Victoria Sawal (a real charmer!) at the family, and of course, Abigail Hargreeves - played by Liisa Repo-Martell - returns and shakes things up big time. They are more interesting than most of the past seasons! The writers did a great job of bringing in new actors who totally add something unique and fresh to the mix.
Ending It Big!
All of the Characters get a chance to stand out and explore how far they've come, which isn't exactly simple in a show about superpowers and apocalypse! With an epic and super bittersweet conclusion, the show does justice to the journey that we’ve been through together for the last few seasons! It doesn't disappoint, not even with that slightly shorter season - the Storytelling makes it feel complete.
It ends in an amazing way, showing a world of both hope and regret. Honestly, if you're looking for a crazy Action adventure that makes you laugh and think (and yeah, maybe sheds a couple of tears!), The Umbrella Academy is a must-see.
