Showrunner "Didn't Feel Right" clarifies why Bridgerton Season 3 changes book ending.
Showrunner for Bridgerton Jess Brownell has discussed why the third season of the historical romance alters the ending of its associated novel and what it implies for the fourth season. Colin and Penelope's marriage marks the end of Bridgerton's third season, when Penelope tells the Queen she is Lady Whistledown. The program does, however, make a point of showing that she isn't sacrificing her character or reputation right away; rather, it hints that she will use it differently approaching season four. This marks a major shift from Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which finds her permanently renouncing the alias.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brownell clarified why Penelope, unlike in the book, does not give up her position as Lady Whistledown at the end of Bridgerton season three. The showrunner said that the several points of view could have influenced the decision and hinted that she will be changing her strategy to rumors entering season four. Brownell's whole answer is below:
Fourth season of Bridgerton is under production.
We discussed her perhaps quitting at the end of this season. But it just felt wrong at a season when a woman is juggling love and profession for her to sacrifice the career for the man. I do believe that gossip has a terrible reputation. It's all about the intention one uses when gossips. Though there is gossip meant to criticize or judge, particularly between vulnerable players, notably ladies in the Regency era, there is also gossip aimed to help each other escape danger and provide power and agency at a time when so much knowledge was suppressed. Penn leaning more toward the positive side of gossip next season excites me.
The producers of the show have already started planning the following season. This would call for additional characters, hence the narrative should be interesting. Given its success, fans have tremendous expectations for this show.

Some viewers of Bridgerton Season 3 might have been a little perplexed by the finale. The showrunner is, however, providing a bit of foresight on what is next. One fantastic new feature to the show is the shift in viewpoint on rumor. For fans, the new narrative path could be interesting since the next season would highlight the positive aspects of gossip.

Bridgerton: Show with a Strong Following
Jess Brownell, the showrunner for Bridgerton, has discussed why season 3 of the historical romance alters the finale of its related book and what this means for season 4. Colin and Penelope were married at the end of the third Bridgerton season, and the latter told the Queen she is Lady Whistledown. But the program emphasizes that she isn't sacrificing her persona or gossip just yet; rather, it suggests she will channel it differently approaching season 4. This is a major departure from Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which sees her renounce the pseudonym permanently.
Brownell told Entertainment Weekly why Penelope, as Lady Whistledown at the end of Bridgerton season 3, doesn't give up her position as she does in the book. The showrunner clarified how the several points of view gossip could have influenced the choice, suggesting she will be handling rumors differently approaching season 4.
