The first spinoff NCIS might feature Kate Todd since it takes place in the past.
NCIS: Origins fits very well for Sasha Alexander's character Kate Todd since the prequel spinoff will travel back in time. It was difficult to bring Caitlin "Kate" Todd back in anything other than post-mortem representations once she passed away in NCIS season 2. Many characters have returned to the NCIS series after their time on the show expired, however it is impossible to really picture a character who ends up as a dead body on the NCIS autopsy table returning.
Origins of NCIS will start in 1991 when Gibbs is just sent to Camp Pendleton. Gibbs honorably left his hometown of Stillwater, Pennsylvania, after joining the military in the 1970s and was released from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. The show will so follow Gibbs in his mid-thirties as he initially starts working for the embryonic NCIS headquarters. Though Kate and Gibbs had different ages, the NCIS chronology places Kate as an adult in the early 1990s.
How might Kate Todd's appearance fit NCIS: Origins?
Kate's NCIS: Origins presence would probably be brief but it is within reach even though her plot does not precisely coincide with Gibbs' early military experience. It was hypothesised that Kate was in her 20s in the early 1990s, in her 30s when she was with the team. Kate might engage with Gibbs and be highlighted vacationing close to Camp Pendleton in California. Gibbs most certainly may have crossed contact with Kate earlier in life, including learning her name and chatting with her, without remembering it by the time both agents met on Air Force One.
The franchise had shown characters overlapping in their early years before now. "Everything Starts Somewhere," episode 2 of NCIS season 18, looked at Gibbs and Ducky's beginning of a friendship. The episode convoluted NCIS canon, portraying the pair as lifetime friends without disclosing that Ducky had no knowledge later in life that Gibbs had been married and his wife and daughter had been killed. Perhaps Kate's persona could be included more naturally. While Origins runs the danger of destroying what made Gibbs unique by revealing the mysteries of his character, Kate is a character more worth investigating.
The Shocking Season 2 NCIS Death Expanded
In NCIS season 2, Caitlin Todd died shockingly. Her passing in the NCIS season 2 finale was the climax of renegade Mossad agent Ari Haswari's villainy. First showing in NCIS season 1, episode 16, "Bête Noire," Ari started a season-spanning struggle that put "Bête Noire" among the top episodes in NCIS' 21 seasons. Following his covert entrance into NCIS Headquarters in a corpse bag and holding many team members captive, the Mossad operative kidnapped Kate. Alexander's leaving the show was permanent after her ultimate murder.
Among the most crucial major players leaving NCIS was Kate. Though numerous characters have come and gone, Kate Todd's leaving from the show was among the most graphic. Other characters who would later occupy Kate's role, such as Ellie Bishop ( Emily Wickersham) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), would also leave their MCRT post but in such a way that their personalities may resurfaced. For instance, it was discovered later on in NCIS season 16 that Ziva was alive, despite the belief that she was deceased in season 13.
How Kate Has Made Reappearance on NCIS in the Past
Kate emerged post-mortem at the start of NCIS season 3. Her physical body was preserved on a slab in autopsy; the former agent was shown as both dead and "dead" but with Kate interacting with the other NCIS characters. She "comes alive" to discuss autopsy with Ducky (David McCallum). She also showed up in the forensics lab and bullpen as a visualization tool specifically used by Gibbs, Tony, Abby (Pauley Perrette), and McGee (Sean Murray). Every time she visited a different MCRT member, her hair and clothing suited how each coworker recalled her.
Kate makes appearances in NCIS season 3, episode 1, "Kill Ari Part I," and season 3, episode 2, "Kill Ari Part II." Paying honor to her character and the legacy around the team's inaugural case in season 1, episode 1, "Yankee White," which was the same episode Kate joined the team, Kate was also addressed in the most recent NCIS season. The 1000th episode of NCIS was the season 21 episode referencing Todd's character, and it felt appropriate that the plot centered on an original team interaction. Given Kate's central role in the NCIS villain narrative paid for after 21 years, it also felt fitting that the 1000th episode starred her.
NCIS' After 19 Years, New Spinoff Can Finally Bring This One Character Back To The Franchise
A fresh Spinoff from NCIS can at last bring back a character who hasn't been able to make appearances in the NCIS universe in 19 years. Like Anthony DiNozzo actor Michael Weatherly shockingly returning in NCIS season 21, certain characters are brought back to the series long after they leave. Other offshoot projects, including LL Cool J's Sam Hanna joining the NCIS: Hawai'i cast after his home series, NCIS: Los Angeles, was canceled in 2023, allow characters to return to the NCIS universe.
The terrible implications of their employment as NCIS agents prevent some characters or those of their family from returning to the NCIS universe. The series has had some unforgettable deaths, including the startling deaths of Eli David (Michael Nouri) and Jackie Vance (née Thomas). Once a character dies on-screen, their choices for returning to the show are few. Although NCIS season 22 will not feature this character, their one unique event from NCIS' lastest Spinoff will cause them to ultimately return.
