Orion and the Dark shows how legendary the upsetting incineration scene is in Toy movie 3 when it parodies the heartwrenching moment toward the beginning of its movie. Based on Emma Yarlett's 2014 book of the same name, Sean Charmatz and Charlie Kaufman's 2024 Netflix animated fantasy adventure comedy follows an 11-year-old child with extreme anxiety. Everything changes, though, when Orion visits Dark—the incarnation of one of his darkest anxieties. But before to then, the film makes a fleeting shout-out to the depressing ending of Toy Story 3.
Orion is critiquing a moment akin to Toy Story 3's, hence the Parody is subdued and brilliant, but as the movie runs on his remarks will contradict each other.
Among the countless legendary and unforgettable events in Toy Story 3 was subtly (and cleverly) imitated in a 2024 animated film that tragically went under the radar. Directed by Lee Unkrich and written by Michael Arndt (based on a story by Unkrich, John Lasseter, and Andrew Stanton), the 2010 Pixar animated comedy-drama marks the third episode in the Toy Story movie series and falls immediately before Andy is expected to head off for college. As such, the central conflict of Toy Story 3 centers on what happens to Woody, Buzz, and the other toys as Andy grows up.
Following a sequence of bad luck, the toys wind up at Sunnyside Daycare in Toy Story 3, where they encounter the evil Lotso forcing them to be played with wild toddlers. Toys left in a dumpster and sent to a landfill wind up in the daycare when they try to break out. Lotso's treachery sends Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other toys destined for an incinerator. The Aliens save them, thus they are about to embrace their destiny. The sequence is tragic and among the most unforgettable events in the Toy Story series, even with the soothing result.
Orion and the Dark have in common with the 2010 film not only the parodies of one of Toy Story 3's darkest scenes. Similar to many Pixar storylines, Netflix's 2024 animated comedy employs the "What if anthropomorphic things had feelings?" concept. The manifestation of the evil meets Orion in Orion and seeks to assist the lad in conquering his anxiety. Like the toys in Toy Story 3 and the emotions in Pixar's Inside Out have personalities, characters like Dark, Quiet, and Sleep have sentiments in the story.
Greek mythology provides the name of Orion and the Dark's main character, which makes his narrative both incredibly humorous but also more unique.
Toy Story 3, the third film in the series, carries on the tale of Woody and Buzz as they negotiate the inevitable. Woody, Buzz, and co. find a fresh lease on life when they wind up in a nearby daycare centre; Andy, their owner, is getting older and no longer plays with his toys. But things are not as they seem, hence the toys have to cooperate to get home.
On June 19, 2026 Pixar intends to premiere Toy Story 5, starring Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
About eight minutes into Orion and the Dark, Orion is watching TV and finds nothing on the screen to interest him. Anthropomorphic recyclable objects headed for a garbage compactor in a movie or show are bracing themselves for their destiny. Orion notes how "completely unrealistic" it is since he thinks the items lack emotions or travel on journeys. Of course, Orion and the Dark is parying the incinerator scene from the 2010 Pixar film. Orion is discussing a moment like to Toy Story 3's, hence the Parody is subdued and brilliant, but as the movie goes on his comments will contradict each other.
