DC is bringing back one of the most popular graphic novels in history: Watchmen, this time as a two-part animated movie!

Watchmen: A New Adaptation

The legendary graphic novel from Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins had its first big-screen moment thanks to Zack Snyder back in 2009. That version did pretty well, but DC isn't done yet and they've decided to make a whole new version, but in animation.

Watchmen originally appeared from 1986-1987 and helped to elevate the status of comic books by giving readers such incredible work, resulting in Watchmen making a major impression by becoming a classic among comics, and literary works as well!

Watchmen: Chapter 1 Release

Watchmen: Chapter 1 debuted in August 2024, hitting digital platforms on August 13th and then arriving on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD two weeks later on August 27th.

Critics and fans raved about the movie and thought that this adaptation was better than Snyder’s live-action Watchmen. Critics gave the movie a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes while viewers gave it a 7/10 rating on IMDB, indicating how excited people were about seeing this movie!

What Watchmen Chapter 1 Covers

It follows the first half of the storyline in Watchmen and was incredibly faithful, adapting everything that came before it and showing just how compelling the world really is.

But was the story too faithful? Perhaps this is where some think it could have done a lot better. The adaptation is almost a copy of what already came out and might feel familiar to viewers who have already seen the 2009 live-action movie.

Fans of Watchmen are certainly wondering what will be in Watchmen: Chapter 2 and are certainly excited for what might come. There's even an intense, exciting climax, one that will set the tone and what audiences might be excited for!

The Wait for Chapter Two

Watchmen: Chapter 2, originally scheduled for release at the end of 2024 was unfortunately postponed to 2025. The details are being kept under wraps, but its likely the reason was that it needs extra time to finalize all its visual effects! While it seems odd, there's really a good hope that the delays just indicate how incredible this story is shaping up to be! The fact that there wasn't a release date may leave some fans worried.

It looks like there are recognizable voices.

Matthew Rhys stars as Nite Owl II (Dan Dreiberg), known for shows like "The Americans".
Katee Sackhoff plays Silk Spectre II (Laurie Juspeczyk), a role she really embraces and made the character iconic from Battlestar Galactica!
You get the talented Titus Welliver as Rorschach ( Walter Kovacs). He is well known from his role in Bosch.
Troy Baker lends his talent to Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt)
The Comedian (Edward Blake) gets voiced by Rick D. Wasserman

Setting Up Chapter Two

If you saw Watchmen: Chapter 1, it faithfully followed the comic! With amazing artwork inspired from the Dave Gibbons artwork!

With an interesting story that blends the past with today, what does that leave for audiences? Chapter 1 was an awesome experience! There was such a dramatic ending to it with a cliffhanger! That certainly has some pretty exciting news!

The end of this episode leaves you wondering what Chapter 2 has for fans! There is certainly more to uncover to understand how this case unravels, possibly giving the true explanation and the reason behind these crazy deaths.

The Trailers

Watchmen, made an initial announcement a whole year before it released trailers! There was an exciting June 2024 teaser that let everyone know what animation looked like in a truly new iteration!

Then, even more exciting, was a trailer released on July 10, 2024 that helped to give audiences a full understanding of just what will be featured in the movie!

With a big cast. Lots of anticipation for Watchmen: Chapter 2, so make sure to keep your eye out! While the timing might not be totally clear there is going to be an amazing conclusion!
