The newest to arrive in the Energon Universe is Autobot Springer.
The entrance of Springer comes with the revelation that the Sacred Ring of Void Rivals may have ties to ancient Cybertron, therefore linking the beginning of the Transformers to Kirkman and De Felici's current work. Springer has always been a valuable member of the Autobots as a Transformer with alternate modes of a futuristic automobile and a helicopter. When Proximus follows Darak and Solila, he immediately shows to be an equally useful friend for the two.
This is where artist Lorenzo De Felici really shines; the fight in Void Rivals #9 is a jaw-dropping exhibition of visual narrative ability. Perhaps a taste of things to come when the G.I. Joe crew gets involved, the creative team illustrates how a human-sized warrior might hold their own against the far larger Transformers.
A contentious G.I. Joe sect of enemies has declared war on Cybertron, so the Transformers have a brand-new adversary in the Energon Universe.
Just appearing on the pages of Void Rivals, a fan-favorite Transformers character may inspire a significant plot in the Energon Universe. The series that started Skybound's new shared universe of Hasbro franchises shocked the world when the first issue ended with the unexpected arrival of the Transformer Jetfire – and it continues to be essential in widening the universe. Written by Robert Kirkman with artwork by Lorenzo De Felici, Void Rivals #9 carries on the tale of Darak and Solila, two fighters from opposing sides in a bitter interplanetary warfare.
Having been thrust together by circumstance, the two discover they are under attack from the Zertonian hunter Proximus. In the next fight Solila is severely injured, and Void Rivals #9 discovers the two looking for cover in a structure they had come upon on the wasteland. There they come across the triple-changer Autobot Springer, who initially surfaced in Transformers: The Movie in 1986.
Springer Will be Crucially Important in the Energon Universe
Given the number of major narratives being set up, the Energon Universe most surely looks to have an even larger year than the first. The G.I. Joe crew has been sent to hunt down Transformers; Megatron has escaped his captivity from Cobra-La; the Decepticons are building a bridge from Cybertron to Earth.
Perhaps even the first significant crossover of the Energon Universe, all of these various tales seem to be guiding to key storylines for 2024. Now that Springer is part of the Void Rivals cast, the Energon Universe era of Transformers keeps developing in fascinating fresh directions that must be ignored.

Given Hot Rod's earlier appearance in the Free Comic Book Day Energon Universe Special, it seems likely that Void Rivals will remain a major game for the EU going ahead.
